Has anyone here bought one? Do they really work or are they just a piece of worthless crap. Thanks for any info.

Of course they work and work well.

Take any good old wifi router you have and if its on there firmware list, flash it, set it up your way and dont look back.

https://dd-wrt.com/

OR you can buy the cheap mainstream units that are plug and play that any 5th grader can hack.

Id have a vpn in the picture, anyone can DL cali linux and watch a u tube vid and be on your network and even the dummies can do it for a hundred bucks or so.

I just a modern more powerful router that fixed my problems. I was considering a booster but no need now.

What are you trying to do? If you want to extend wifi inside your house you can use the TP-Link stuff that sends the signal across the house wiring. It works okay, I've used that solution for years since we have a single story ranch type house that is spread out. I tried a cheap wifi extender and it didn't work.

I’ve had good luck with my extender, it’s a TP brand and I needed one with an Ethernet port to run an Aruba device. If you have fiber or cable they work fine, DSL will struggle. If you can, look into a MESH system, easy to hook up, replaces your current router and provides seamless high speed through the house, and you can place pods in different areas to improve the signal. More expensive than an extender but better performance.

I'm trying to extend my WiFi signal so it reaches outside to my barn. That is where I work on my cars at. Right now I have a WiFi Router in my house for internet service from AT&T, but the signal won't reach out back to my barn about 50 feet behind the house. I was thinking maybe one of these small WiFi extenders that plug into a wall socket might help boost the signal to reach my barn. Whats everybodys thinking. Do they work? Thanks.

Any way you can run a cable out there? Do you have power to the barn? If so you might be able to have cable go out there from your router.

Good suggestion but not really feasible.

My detached garage has a streaming TV and that TV is approximately 65 feet from my router. Not enough signal. I bought an extender with two antennas from Best buy for $50. I was skeptical. I plugged it in at the outlet nearest the garage yet furthest from my house router- so my extender is approximately 38 ish feet from the garage TV. My signal is now plenty strong enough for the streaming TV and me playing on my laptop.

In the past I have had success with simple & cheap DIY parabolic reflectors

http://blog-on-wifi.blogspot.com/2011/11/deep-dish-cylindrical-parabolic.html

and “Pringles Can Antennas” (Google it)
to extend WiFi range in a “rifle shot” direction.

I have also used 30 gallon galvanized steel garbage cans
to boost 800 Mhz band cell phone signals very similar to pringles can method.
The cell antenna needs to be about 4.5 inches from the bottom of the 30 gallon garbage pail.

The “coaxial multi-dipole” WiFi antennas
like the D-Link model number ANT24-0700
boost signal in a 360 degree circle by redirecting the signal “wasted” in the up and down directions.

Hey 2boltmain. What brand name WiFi Extender did you buy? I hear some are good and others are junk. Thanks.
