I figured this might be of interest to some. I recently sent my Procomp “Victor clone” to Dwayne at Porter Racing Heads to test on his Saenz 600 bench, plus it would give him an opportunity to carve on a port and see what he came up with.

This is the Procomp I've posted about in the past as my “crash test dummy”, since I bought it for the sole purpose of being an R&D head to come up w/ a port to do another set of Victors I have. I'd already done two different intake ports w/ the intent of keeping to a smaller runner volume than my Hughes CNC'd Victors.

The first port wasn't horrible, but I had started taking the short turn in the wrong direction and stopped messing with it from that point. FWIW, I'd left the width basically standard at ~ 1.30”, but did raise it to ~ 2.35”.

.100---71.9
.200--152.9
.300--218.3
.400--275.8
.450--299.8
.500--317.8
.550--328.5
.600--338.0
.650--345.7
.700--356.0
.750--355.2

I took a different approach with a second port trying to keep the high-lift #s from backing up, but it never had the lower-lift flow of the first. Also, in this case I left the height standard, but widened the port to ~1.35”. FYI, this runner measured 296 cc, which equates to about a 255 cc standard-height port when taking into account the built-in intake runner spacer.

.100---71.4
.200--150.0
.300--209.0
.400--265.4
.450--294.9
.500--317.8
.550--336.1
.600--338.8
.650--348.4
.700--355.2
.750--359.0

Dwayne took one of the remaining untouched ports – other than having had an IMM valve job – and carved something that turned out pretty solid, especially given he left a completely as-machined stock-sized port entry with this one. This runner measured 291 cc, so it's slightly smaller than mine and would be comparable to around a 250 cc standard-height port.

------Stock / Ported
.100---71.9 / 73.7
.200--147.6 / 154.9
.300--204.2 / 222.0
.400--257.8 / 277.7
.450--277.7 / 303.7
.500--292.2 / 321.6
.550--298.7 / 332.3
.600--307.5 / 340.7
.650--313.2 / 345.7
.700--313.2 / 349.5
.750--314.0 / 350.3

Regardless, just some more tech stuff as the cold weather sets in.

That's why he is a cylinder head guy and you're a desk jockey!

Good food for thought Brad, thank you for sharing. I'll always wonder what the true potential of this head in MW port form is.

Maybe someday we will find out!

I think both sets of the RPM I bought before porting flowed 288 to 291 CFM at .600 lift on the intakes on Jasons Pettis Super Flow 600 at 28 inches of water work shruggy

Your ports were pretty close Brad, doubt you'd see much of a difference on a dyno?

Not trying to start a debate, but what has the reliability been like of the Pro Comp Mopar heads like those flow tests come from? Do they still got problems with crappy guides and valve seat inserts falling out?

I have no idea. Jesse Robinson and Randy Malik both had EMC entries that used Procomp BB heads, but I personally don't know of anyone who uses them who can attest to long-term durability.

I have had a set on my engine for 4 years, bought as someone mentioned, cheap to experiment on. Flow around 350cfm, 3200 lb car best 9.64 @ 140 mph. 64 dodge nostalgia super stock. I used good valves, springs, rockers etc. got a couple hundred passes on them with no issues.

Some pictures would be great!

Have a pair of pro comp standard port's on the bench right now for a 446 turbo build and was also thinking of not going max wedge port and raising the roof of the port a bit ..

Any more things you learn would be great!

Have the Hughes 1.6 offset rockers.

I am going to stay with the 2.200/1.81 valve not sure of cam specs yet...

X2, I've been thinking if getting a set oglf the bare heads and get my own valves and such. They just seem to have more potential than the stealth, rpm, sidewinder, etc for about the same cost
