I am trying to decode a broadcast sheet for my buddies 1972 Barracuda. The part I'm stuck on is the Vehicle Order Number. I know the first 3 characters of the VON are for the scheduled production date. Where I'm stuck is the last 6 characters, which are L20039. What does the "L" decode as? I assume it has something to do with the fact that the car is a C.L.C Direct Lease Y24 code car. The car is also has Y39 Special Order and Y85 New Car Service code too.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I do not recall seeing one with an L before.....
I agree. I've seen J, K and M used but not an L

Same here, never seen an L in the VON for 71-72 B bodies. I do have one 72 with an S but no idea what it designates either.
addict:to devote or surrender (oneself) to something habitually or obsessively ....hmmmm

I am still looking for the meaning of an S for 1970 cars myself.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just came across a 70 Challenger with an S that starts the VON. Any idea what the S designates. It also has Y76 on the broadcast sheet.

great addition to the topic! WAG I'd bet that based on volume, some/all of these "Y" coded " PREFERED CUSTOMER" accounts received semi-personalized (single alpha character prefix'd VONs) Order Forms direct from Chrysler for specifying their fleet vehicles. I believe "S" & "Y76" reference the "General Equipment Leasing Corporation ( Gelco)", although I couldn't find much on the 'net about the business in the early '70s I think this is a reference to it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelco& due to the nature of fleet/lease/rental vehicles these usually average (non-collectable status) vehicles, did not survive the '70s - and we see very few of them today. ..... fast forward to 1972 - "Y24" - C.L.C. Direct Leasing C.L.C. - does anyone know a source for the actual translation? Chrysler Lease Car? Chrysler Lease Corporation? other?? here's an official "Chrysler Leasing System" logo from 1969

Hi Dan, thanks for the copy of the Y Code sheet. I've never seen that. Very nice Yes, what you say makes sense. The car in question is a 383 Non R/T vert. Red on red with a white top. Not your typical rental car or fleet car. Maybe a lease?

Can you email a scan of the sheet please Tom? Hi Barry, I just sent you an email. I was sent a copy of the sheet via email because I expressed interest in the car. Tom
