Head Gasket Woes? Fel-Pro 1009 - 03/25/24 12:56 PM
Hey all. So, I'm in the process of mocking up my 505 stroker...440, .030 over, etc...(Factory iron block, TrickFlow aluminum heads)
I have Fel-Pro 1009 gaskets, and I drop one on the block and to my dismay, the fire ring is over-hanging the factory chamfer by a noticeable amount. These gaskets are supposed to be 4.410" in diameter. Everything I am reading says this is a no-no situation because it will trap combustion pressure under the ring and lift the gasket...
So, what are my options? Cometic MLS 4.500" ? Rubber-coated Copper 4.500"? LS swap? (J/K)

Some blocks have a gigantic chamfer in the top of the bore
and all I know to do is go to a gasket with a bigger hole. My friend recently had the same problem. I feel your pain. The Fel-Pro 1105 is real big, gasket hole 4.59. I wonder if they have anything in between? If not you will have to change brand.

If you think the block is bad check it out on the head. Edelbrock head fit is terrible

Is this one is ok for 10.5:1 compression ratio?

With Trick Flow heads you should go straight to Cometic gaskets. Don't bother with any of the cheap stuff, order the correct parts and do it once.

x3
I ran them at 14 to 1.
10.5 should be no sweat I think fel-pro says good to 12 to 1

x4!
I tried Fel-Pro's with my 505 build initially and had issues.
No issues with Cometics (I've used 2 different thicknesses) over the last 9 years.
Lots of abuse and a rowdy jug!

My suggestion is anyone considering the Fel-Pro 8519 look into the 17059 Marine gasket instead:

I used the marine gasket 17059 on my stock block .060 over with Indy heads , zero issues . Gary
Mainly for the larger bore , & the finish on the block was not up to specs for cometic gaskets .

I also used the 17059 marine gasket no problems
