What would you say if I told you that David Hakim at Mopar was looking in to the possibility of bringing back the original 15x7 polished (3461043) and brushed (3461222) Rallye Wheel Trim Rings? I'm not talking about the version that was a quarter of an inch to short. I'm talking about the correct one that is approximately 3" deep and comes very close the center of the wheel. I told David that these are one of the hardest to find parts for any restoration of a 70-71 B or E-body car.
What I'd like anyone that is interested to do is please reply to this post and tell how many sets you would possibly buy if they were in fact available from Chrysler again.
Put me down for four polished sets!
Attn: David Hakim
Thanks for your efforts for us resto guys!

Snoopy has been communicating with Mr. Hakim for a while about the trim rings, I think they (MP) are trying to get the current supplier to retool to make them.
Amazing how an unchallenged lie can become the absolute truth.

Suggested list price?
It's easy to say you'd buy X number of sets when there is no price listed, but I'll bet that very few would buy any if the price was $500 for 4.

I think it is wonderfull that Dave Hakim is "thinking about" bringing us some quality 15x7 trim rings...BUT...what about the parts we really need? What about the big SECRET??? you know the SECRET that you can still buy real MoPar service parts for those OLD cars. You know those old cars they use in ads to HOCK you into buying a new Mopar, the same old car they don't want to sell you parts for because it will prevent you from buying a new one. Why is it the parts on the "list" somehow can't make it into a restoration catalog or an acknowlegment they even exist... Let's ask the other difficult question again: If WE the CUSTOMERS do not know the parts are available for the old cars how can we buy them? If we don't buy these parts, eventually these parts go NS1 [not available]because they were not selling....DOH! It almost seems like that is what they want, so the only choice we have buy that NEW $$$$$ Mopar every 5 years or buy the now NS1 parts from the several "Princes of Thieves" we have in the mopar market. Did you look at the new MP catalogs?? What a joke. Can you get Hemi head bolts or forged SB stroker cranks or are they still made of unobtanium? What about a dip stick or dip stick tube for any V8, or transmision fill tube or oil level indicator?. What about the bolts you need to bolt on that clutch or bellhousing or timing cover?. BTW You can still get the correct bolts but you have to be mopar parts literate and have a COOPERATING dealer to be successfull or you can just get hocked on EBay! I sit here in amazement that you can get all worked up over trim rings when there are bigger parts issues that need to be resolved. What about these NS1 part numbers.?...I guess we don't need them either.... 2266783: clutch rod firewall boot. all models 2401740: metal swivel, goes on clutch fork adjusting rod all models, replaces the JUNK rubber and metal washer. 2409408: manual transmission shifter linkage swivel 2534111: filter-gas tank sending unit pickup, 3/8-hemi models 2875605: spark plug wire separator 2 wire A engine 2949646: H/L bezel Challenger rt side argent 2949647: H/L bezel Challenger lt side argent 2950887: E-body clutch/brake pedal rubber pads 2998146: h/l bezel black 70 R/T Challenger,rt side 2998147: h/l bezel black 70 R/T Challenger,lt side Don't worry there are plenty more important NS1 part numbers to choose from. Let's see...if I can't get parts for my old MoPar what makes you think I will buy a new one...? And one last point...where oh where is the long overdue marketing study by MP to determine the scope of the MP market...I think it is time to replace the broken dart board and let the customer be heard.

I shared this story with Daniel. I thought others might get a kick out of it.
Daniel, A funny story around these trim rings. I can remember going into the Dodge dealership around 1980 and ordering these trim rings. The funny thing was it was a "crap shoot" as to whether you got the right ring. I can remember the correct ones would come in the white/blue sticker Chrysler" boxes where the incorrect ones would come with the red/white/blue Mopar boxes. After I got my first "incorrect" 15x6.5 ring I brought it to the parts manager. He would order another one and after a few trys, I would get a good one. Finally, I needed another full set. A new order generated 1 correct trim ring and 3 wrong ones. He already knew the story and I just happened to be at the dealer when the zone rep was visiting. I explained the story to him and showed him the two rings, with the same part number, that were obviously different. He appologized for the problems and invited me to visit the parts distribution center in Tappan New York. A buddy and I made the trip. It was very cool. A warehouse filled with tons and tons of parts. He walked us to the bin which had the trim rings and we personnaly picked out that last eight old style boxes containing 15x7 trim rings from the bin. That was around 1981 so there has been nothing but 15x6.5s since then.
Count me in for a set of brushed!

I would take 2-3 sets of polised and 1-2 sets of brushed ones, but only if they are 100% correct, and somewhat reasonably priced. The 14" rings are still available, part number is 2944424. They were priced around $30 each a few years ago, now they are over $100 each! What's the reason for such a huge price increase? I guess I shouldn't complain, at least they're still available.

What do you say Daniel, would you be up for this?
You better believe it. I already sent David two original trim rings, one polished and one brushed. He wanted to have samples in hand so he can make sure that if these things are brought back, that they are 100% correct in every way. I know that several of the responses to this post have been that guys would buy them if they are 110% correct. I think if we achieve 100% correctness it will be great!

Quick question guys as we didn't get them here...are the Rallyes the sane as the Magnum rings? If so, one set of 14" polished!

Considered 15X8 Corvette Rallye rings? I've never tried them but they may work and are readily available.
I heard they don't fit except for some older ones that a guy said he got to fit.....otherwise I'd probably do it.

I'd buy 2 sets of each...if they are reasonably priced, if they are really expensive, then I'll only get 1 set total. maybe 2.

UPDATE:
I got a call from David Hakim at Mopar Performance. The original vendor has been located as well as the tooling and the blueprints. I sent him two correct 15x7 trim rings so that he could be certain that he was researching the correct 3" deep trim ring. He told me that he plans on running 1000 polished and 1000 brushed trim rings. He said that if they are a good seller that they would do more. That's only enough for 500 cars, half for the 1970 model and half for 1971. I would think that they would sell very quickly. Good news is the wheels are in motion. In his own words: STAY TUNED!

I'd say lets give him the benefit of the doubt and NOT trash him or what he does or does not do. Keep in mind that he doesn't own the Chrysler Corporation and he probably has a boss to answer to. I for one am keeping my fingers crossed.

UPDATE:
I talked with David yesterday and he assured me that these are going to be available soon. He said that he hopes that they will be available before Carlisle! He is working with the vendor to get the price down to a level that will be VERY affordable for everyone in the hobby. They will be available through any local dealer as well as the Performance Parts dealers such as Jegs, Mancini, Summit, etc.

I'd take a set depending on price. I'd have to research a little to see whether brushed or polished was correct for my application - 1970 Challenger T/A
I think it was polished, anybody know?

I'd take a set depending on price. I'd have to research a little to see whether brushed or polished was correct for my application - 1970 Challenger T/A I think it was polished, anybody know?
1970 -polished 1971 - brushed, If I'm wrong somebody will correct me.

It's showtime folks! Looks like we missed the first couple of ones. Maybe in time for Carlisle?
Amazing how an unchallenged lie can become the absolute truth.

Most cars from that era came with 14" tires and trim rings. They are harder to find than 15".
Are you saying the 14" rings are more difficult to find than the correct 15x7 rings? I'd rather have two sets of correct 15x7 rings over my 2 sets of 14" rings. I'm talking nice used....not NOS. 14" were more popular but so many are adding 15" wheels to their cars (myself included) over the 14's that I bet they will sell many more sets than they would 14".......if they ever make them.

This same post comes up about every six months with no real results. Reminds me of one of those email messages you get about fowarding it to 10 other people you know... blah blah blah.
Just tell us when they're out and we'll buy them.

I heard a rumor that they made the 6 1/2" ones. Again.

Yes. That is true. The difference between 14" and 15" wheels is hardly noticible. The 15" will be out when the new retro Chrager is made.

Here's the update on the trim rings...
The supplier has the tooling along with the samples that Daniel Banker was kind enough to loan us. Right now the supplier is lookig for a good plating source as the original company is out of business.
We want these things to look and fit just like the originals.
I'm sure everyone will understand.
Thanks,
David Hakim Mopar Performance Parts
It's been 5 months since this was brought up, I wonder what's the problem.
Here is David Hakim's position on Thu Apr 14 2005 03:05 PM Quote:
The reason the 15 x 7 Trim Rings have been delayed is quite simple...the original tooling DOES NOT EXIST.
We did an exhaustive search that lasted over four months and we still could not find the tooling.
We do have the 15 X 6.5 trim ring tooling which we have gone ahead and produced products (P5153310 - Chrome, P5153311 - Brushed) since there is still a demand for this size. These are shipping to the Mopar depot in a week.
Now, here's the plan, the supplier has indicated that they they can modify the 15 X 6.5 tooling with an insert so it can produce the 15 X 7.0 trim ring.
We have an original part that OnebadSuperBird has loaned us and I'm hopeful that we may see sample parts in two weeks.
If the 15 X 7 trim ring matches the prints and the actual original part, I post the news along with an ETA on when parts will be in stock.

#781054 - Sat Mar 20 2004 06:56 AM UPDATE:
I talked with David yesterday and he assured me that these are going to be available soon. He said that he hopes that they will be available before Carlisle! He is working with the vendor to get the price down to a level that will be VERY affordable for everyone in the hobby. They will be available through any local dealer as well as the Performance Parts dealers such as Jegs, Mancini, Summit, etc.
Two years and still no trim rings.

P3461043 for shiny P3461222 for brushed
I believe both were the OE part numbers with a P in front, but don't hold me to it.
