Ok, I am working on building a Dana 60 to put behind my Hemi in my 68 Charger. I picked up a used truck housing that I am planning on converting to use in a car. I typically build jeeps so this is a little new for me to build a car axle. Right now I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee rear disc brake set up. The Jeep Grand Cherokee WMS is 61" WMS, its within an inch of the b body axle. I had a pair of Dana 44 front shafts that were laying around, they are the same spline as the 60, 30 spline, 1.310 diameter. I am planning on usiing a set of Jeep/mopar bearing ends, a typical jeep Dana 44 uses a Timken set 10 bearings, will they fit the Dana shafts? Are they similar to the Green bearings? Any help and advice would be appreciated. Tim

Dana 60 and 70 comparison! This takes a heavy duty 35 spline Dana 60 rated for 6000lbs of shear force and gives it the 70 ring gear's 8000lbs of shear force.

Sorry to hijack guys. But has anyone made my mistake. I started building a new rearend for the racecar and started with a Dana 70 by accident. I narrowed it and was about to weld everything up when I had a gut feeling that this housing looked too beefy. In researching it it is indeed a 70 housing. Now i have all the axles spool and guts from my previous 60 and was goind to reuse them. I realize the ring is bigger on the 70 and thus the larger housing but can the 60 parts be used in the 70 rather than me start all over again. I feel stupid but the housings are real close in appearance so I can't be the only guy to make this mistake. i have not measured anything to see if it will work as I just noticed it. Are the pinion bearings and side bearing sizes different. Obviously I can make the housing ends whatever I want but I think I am scrooood as I think I read somewhere the bearing sizes are different as well. Anyone know for sure----thanks

Greg

I am still gathering my stuff, if you want to read the whole article, http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=946421&highlight=jana+76 I found this working with my jeep stuff, the offroad guys have been doing it for about a year. The cost is probably about 300.00 more than a 60 if you are buying all new. Here is the link to the girdle cover. It is 250.00 for the cover and girdle assembly. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=958047&highlight=jana+76 Tim

Ok, I called about getting my housing narrowed and new ends put on. Including shafts and the ends it was 700.00. There is a 3 week lead time and the shipping quote I got was 115.00 each way. So now I need to get the 70 ring and pinion fit. I was also able to find an original dana 70 power lok for 150.00 used. Do these prices seem ok? Tim
