When I talked to a magor mfg of high flow water pumps he told my the prob with BB Mopar pumps is not the pump itsel but the depth of the pump in the housing was all over the place on mopars. You need the impeller set back in the housing all the way. If you take a Edelbrock pump and put it in some housings without a gasket and turn it it will rub because the impeller is set back further than stock. Thats why it usually works better . You need just enough gap at the back of the impeller to turn. Not all housings are cast the same and some have more depth from the face were the pump set to the rear flat wall of the housing. On my alum housing, the Edelbrock pump will not turn with unless you use 2 gaskets cause its set back further. A stock OEM pump will turn without any gaskets at all cause it not set back far enough.

Just thinking this through,... If a pump flows More coolant, doesn't that mean the coolant spends Less time being cooled in the radiator, which would result in a Hotter engine? Thoughts?

Tav

I believe this is a misconception ?

What Challenger 1 said, post what's going on. Need 3-4 core rad, unobstructed airflow to/thru it, high flow stat, mixture/timing in the ballpark, & 8 vane Eddy (or similar) pump, tight fitting shroud w properly spaced fan. I believe the faster the water speed the better & when 1 block of water in the rad leaves faster and gets cooled less the next block enters faster to b cooled quicker so in a closed system it reaches an equilibrium till it reaches the point of no addt'l gain no matter how fast it is going and cavitation will start b 4 you reach that point. But on the other end if it is too slow it'll easily reach a point where if it is too slow not enough vol of water is going thru the rad being cooled. Want at least 1 to 1 crank to wp ratio. Add the anti cav plate & best is one thick enough to reduce the distance to the recessed area in the housing for a more efficient pump and if apart can drill a 3/8" to 1/2" addt'l cooling hole in the block/head (punch dont drill the gasket as it'll shred it) in between cyls 4-6 and 3-5 just above/next to, the 2 outside bolt holes on the outside edge (make a triangle) as that is the hottest area being between 2 paired ex valves.

Or you could go with all the original components it rolled of the assembly line with and never look back, everything worked!!

That's right. Ma knew.

Yes she did but we are doing things w her stuff & in some cases mods are needed to take of the addt' heat

once you start changing things, everything MA MOPAR did goes right out the window.

go to www.moparchat.com then scroll down & click on "circle track chat" then read Sanborns "cooling mods" thread that's in a sticky at the top of the page. All the info (& then some) that you'll ever need on cooling. (1) want as fast of flow as you can get (2) want WP pulley speed to be ~5800 in the rpm range where your eng spends it's time. (3) anticav plate (4) reduce vane clearances (5) add/reroute passages. The BB cooling openings in the block are 1&1/8" (ea) & dont want it all to go up/out large figure 8 passages on the inside edge of the deck(s)

6 or 8 vanes must be acomplished with the right pulley to make it work nicelly

for example, 6 ones are for A/C cars and have smaller pulley

Most powerful ? ...as has been stated ... wrong way to go.

On most street combo I have done ...I have used a STD 8 blade ... and ground-off FOUR of the blades PLUS I have used a uNderdrive crank pulley.
