Well that was some of the worst race coverage I've read in a while. Written like he's never been to a race before

There was probably 140-150 race cars maybe and what about 15 show cars? C'mon!

I was wondering that myself???

Come to think of it, no mention of the "Young guns" race, Arm Drop, or any of the other classes. Was that an advertisement for next year or a race/show report? Hey at least we had "Real race cars"!

With the negative publicity the event has received on Moparts, you guys probably won't have to worry about attending next year.my

to be honest I don't really care.I have been the last 3 years and still not impressed with it. nothing we can't do any saturday at half the cost. they insist on running it at the hottest part of the year in the middle of the day. and refuse to change anything to make it more racer friendly. at least race at night so people could go do other things during the day in the heat.

Ha, beat you to it before you deleted it!

So if your car was in it's former configuration would you still go?

Deleted it because I know you guys would pile on me.
If it was not right after a points race I might consider it.
I know the heat sucks and the chance of rain is always a factor.
Just hate to see a Mopar only race get squashed because of a public forum.
Let the begin

really I don't think the forum would have anything to do with getting squashed. the economy, poor timing on the event, not guaranteed purses etc would be the reason. they have the opportunity to make to make it bigger and better. if they choose to keep doing the same thing they will probably get the same result.

You're right I didn't cover the race well. That was not my purpose for writing the article. My purpose was to cover the car show cars. I mentioned the race only because it happened at the same time and to give mention to that fact. I am not a professional journalist. If any of you have the desire to see a better article, please let me know, write it and I'll get it published on the Allpar site replacing the mention I wrote.

I realize this event was not as big as some may have liked. I would have loved to see several times the number of show cars. There may have been many things that contributed to that. Among them were weather, economy and perhaps 'getting the word out more'.
It was the last one - 'getting the word out more' - that I had hope to help with for next year. Allpar.com and I have been hoping to involve more car clubs into events like the car show that happened to be held at a race track at the same time the races were held. It was interesting for me to revisit racing as it has been part of my past if only in some small way.

I could have not mentioned the racing at all and concentrated only on the great cars at the show. But I found that there were many car show participants who I spoke to thought it was good to have a show and race at the same venue.

So why am I bothering to mention any of this? I'm not really sure other than to hopefully try to help make it bigger next year. It's the getting the word out to other car clubs who may want to bring their members to show their cars. I'm committed to at least making the car show event bigger next year if not the racing as well. If by doing that and getting more paying 'spectators' can help to raise purse valves, then I guess that might be a good thing for racers. This is assuming that the racers want spectators and that those ‘ticket’ sales can help raise purses. I wonder why there were not as many spectators. Isn’t this type of racing interesting for folks to come and watch? But you have to agree that by making sure that we get more people to participate purses can increase. So, helping to make it bigger next year would be a benefit.

If you decide you want to pass on the event next year that's fine and your decision. But consider this. The smaller it gets the smaller the purses. So, by helping to make it bigger can only benefit you by increasing the purse.

Just about ANY publicity for any event is good!

SGMP said they'd have it again next year, but I do hope they promote it better/sooner and provide a clearer outline on what to expect. Hopefully they can offer some incentives to get the people back next year.

I'm still surprised at the job the track crew did to keep the track hooking in the heat. 9" radial slicks can be tempermental.
