This subject gets beat to death
Doo a search , its been discussed a million times
However its funny how some say the paper gaskets are never needed
Really , that brand new Holley Street Dominator Intake that i installed about ten years ago almost cost me a motor - It was sucking oil so bad on the passenger side head intake ports because i failed to use the paper gaskets at all
However the Edelbrock Intakes that i installed didnt require the paper gaskets
If i was buying any intake , used , brand new , aluminum blah blah blah , i would let the intake dictate on whether i would bee using paper gaskets or not by test fitting , lining up the bolt holes etc.
Peace Scott
sorry Scott if my post bothers you,i haven't seen it a million times, and wanted input, what i did was order gaskets,if i need i have,if i don't i won't,as a weekend project,my plan is to get out in the garage, have everything i could need in reach,be cruising by evening, not wishing i had asked before starting my project, where you didn't and it almost cost you a motor, hence my post.

I agree no papers. Its like wearing a belt and suspenders to hold your pants up.Ive run aluminum intakes and still do with just the tin.A dab of RTV in the 4 corners and i run a little under the pan where the hold downs go.Now on my 440 I have aluminum intake and heads.Just tin.Rocky

kinda dumb, but getting all my ducks in a row so to speak, changing from 4bbl to 6pk manifold, when ordering new felpro gaskets,i would want 2 pair, one i would think would go under valley pan, second on top? thanks
All felpro valley pans come with 4 gaskets in the kit , are you buying a new valley pan ? Otherwise when you order the gasket they come with 4 in the set. Members roadhazard and topside sells gaskets that are half as thick as the felpros, you may want to go that route if you find it hard to get in the bolts on one side after you have one side of bolts already installed.
It would be nice if some people would ACTUALLY answer the freaking question instead of TELLING and ARGUING you what you should do .

FWIW, after installing an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, using just the valley pan, I had oil getting down in the cylinders. The intake fit just fine. Oil was getting sucked from the valley to the cylinders. I was told the oil problem was caused because of aluminum and iron expanding and contracting at different rates. Took it off, replaced the valley pan and added a paper gasket to each side. No more oil problem. Just saying.
Same here with a Weiand 8008. Added the paper and no more seepage.

You two are crazy , we have members that have reused the original valley they found in the trash for 50 years and one million miles and they never leaked ...

Just went through this on my buds 68 Coronet RT Convert
Performer RPM Intake - Intake fit fine , valley pan only
Then tried two of the four gaskets supplied in kit Still fit fine
Then tried all four gaskets - No go , bolt holes wouldnt line up
So i used the two gaskets on the head sides only
Works great - Couldnt of worked out any better Like i stated in my first post , let the intake dictate gaskets or not - Especially on aftermarket aluminum intakes
