Keep your heads up, boys, I was out for 8 months, found a new job at less pay...couldn't be happier! Don't have to travel any more, home by 5:30 every night.
The race car will be coming off the jackstands for the first time in 2 years, see you at Columbus!
Hope so Charlie, It's been a while.

This Sat. is opening day T&T @ Rt 66. The weather doesn't look good. I cheered myself up yesterday by waxing the Barracuda, looks gooood. Today I think I will run the engine and check things over. It figures, nice all week then crappy on Sat. . Oh well like Ted said at least we are looking at the green side of the grass(and yellow) instead of the brown side. Could be worse I will race soon, I hope. So I don't get kicked out of "unlawfull's race only" section. Don

I agree.
The fact is, even at 4 dollars a gallon, its roughly 133 bucks to get somewhere it cost you 100 bucks to get to last year, or 40 bucks instead of the 30 in gas it cost last year.
If people sit home over that little amount of money difference, they have no business having a car and being involved in this expensive of a hobby anyway

Don I disagree.... I built my car when I was working, built it to what I thought was (and so far is) bullet proof... since then I retired... I had enough money to go to the track on a somewhat regular basis but now I have to pay 25% more JUST on fuel that really cuts into what I do... granted I'm spending alot on my new ride so that does take away from racing... but either way when you add 25% to anything thats a substantial increase.... and they arent done YET

I hear ya Raff.
Last month we were so busy at the lot i couldnt see straight. This month because of the gas hike its been notably slower, and i am sure its the gas prices.
My view is a little different i guess because of my background. Back 35 years ago, while in the service my collateral duty when the ship i was on was overseas, i was the ships duty driver. I drove the big wigs around in England, Italy, Spain, Greece, etc, etc, etc. 35 years ago over there gas was more expensive than it is here currently, even at 4 bucks a gallon. Bet it is 5 or 6 bucks a gallon over there, if not more as we speak.None of those country's has a standard of living like we do, thats why you dont see Suburbans, Expeditions, and Durango's over there, that get 10/15 miles a gallon, they are forced to live within their means, unlike here Guess what i am saying is that people just dont know what a bargain gas is here, compared to 95% of the rest of the world, even at 4 bucks a gallon. That said, i wish it was 2 bucks also ...
Its just that drag racing is an expensive hobby, no way around that, i have done enough of it to know. I had to sell my car to start this business, couldnt do both. sometimes tough decisions have to be made. The people who spend pretty much every dime they have on racing and their car( and there are a lot of people like that) i feel for. Its an addiction. But my point is that if you cant put gas in your tow vechicle to go racing, its pretty darn likely you arent in a position to where you should be racing, from a financial standpoint. Kinda like having a 1500 dollar a month house payment and making 12 or 15 bucks an hour, it just doesnt make sense

It's not the monthly races (or even weekly) that bother me. That's a choice. Paying $4.29/gallon for a gasoline by-product (diesel) for day to day life is what irks me.......Well, one of the things. I saw a barrel of oil went down $3.59 yesterday but, pump prices didn't. I still plan to get my revenge on winter but, paying double for fuel sure shortens up the funds for everything else.

You will commit suicide trying to make sense out of a barrel of oil and its effect on pump prices.
Heck a while back, oil was 35 a barrel, when gas was down around 2 bucks or so a year back or more. Now a barrel is about 3 times that, but gas isnt 6 bucks a gallon which doing the math would seem to say....i think they wring us out of every dime they think they can get away with, and then come back about a penny a gallon from there
What bugs me is you go by a Speedway and its 3.99, and another Speedway 1/2 mile away 4 minutes later its 3.93

HAH ! You guys are complainín 'bout $4 Dollar a Gallon Fuel ?
We're getting it worse up here in Canada ! $1.27 a LITRE, times 4 LITRES to make a Gallon, equals $5.08 a GALLON, and, Thats WITH Our Dollar being worth $1.04 U.S., 4 cents HIGHER than the U.S. greenback.
Just gonna get worse, I don't get it ? In Canada, we have the 2nd largest Proven Oil Reserves in the World, only "more" Oil in Saudi Arabia by a slight margin ?
Why don't you Guys just "annex" us, and start our own North American Oil Supply ? FRIG the Camel Jockeys !
Better to be a "has been" than a "never was".

US gal = 3.785 liters Imperial gal = 4.54 liters
$1.35/liter here in Langley. I was just telling my wife the same thing about our oil supply.

With high fuel prices coming..Is this going to change how much you race this year? We all spend alot of money trying to improve our cars and program. Are you going to travel? Stay close to home? Let's hear what everyone is doing and good luck to everyone!! Ted
I'm on a fixed income and have been for a long time...cost of living soared, taxes and now gasoline prices have hit the roof...
we dont go anywhere and I'm squeaking by with maybe a few bucks left at the end of the month..finaly the race car sale is pending and I'm in the process of dismantling MAX...
so..no more racing for me...I also map out my routes to save gas costs...I never had to live like this ....
luck to everyone..
