Tow fuel isn't a big extra expense, I agree. Life with negative cash flow is. The car will still sit. 6 years now. Off to work for another 12 hour day, so I can live negative. Exillerating, whoopee.

Damn! whats the situation --- if i may ask ?

12 hour shift jobs usually pay decent....?

im deep in debt---but i have a self set budget that allows me NO entertainment and very little food , and nothing else (except bills) ----so i can race once a month

I think that the TRACKS are gonna have to sweeten the pot to get the racers to come out.

Tell me about it. I raced sunshine the other night at heads up madness. $15 at the gate, $50 to enter the 6.50 class and $500.00 to win??? Just doesn't add up. That was easy a $150-200.00 night to race (and i didn't win anything).

But do you pay $1800.00 per month for health insurance?

I'd cut the tracks some slack....you expect them to payout more when the car counts for the most parts have been cut in half....better try and support them so they don't end up going belly up

30 - 40% income tax + 23% sales tax + 75% tax on fuel, etc... you get the picture and I still have health insurance but nowhere near 1800 , not even 1800 a year.
and now when I m up to speed, we can t forget our taxes on new cars, would you believe a new challenger v6 is 65000 euros or about 91000 $, I have no idea what a srt8 would cost... sorry, back to the topic

We have 38% income tax and real estate taxes aren't very good either depending on which area of the country here you live in. Sucks for both of us I guess?

Yes the country is going through ROUGH times.

Our sport isn't the only one thats more expensive.
How a bout taking the family to the ballpark?
If you WANT to race you may have to sacrifice, cut out things you don't need so you can do something you REALLY like doing!
My 03 Sierra gets 8-9 mpg pulling the trailer, so I may not go as far this year.
I am a UNION construction worker, I haven't worked in 5 months. I save money when I do work so I can race. Racing is what I like to do!!

The state of Wisconsin doesn't like UNION people so I may not spend my money there.
One week from tomorrow is opening day t&t @ my home track, Rt 66 My friend Dave and I will be there doing what we like to do.
I haven't raced in 5 months and I am REALLY looking forward to doing it again!!
We don't have it as bad as some countries (Japan)
Hopefully it will get BETTER soon.
Thanks for listening/reading, I feel better now. Don

i'm not complaining about gas prices, and my home track is doing all it can to entice the average racer to participate. i'm grateful for that. that doesn't mean i'm going to race much this year. am i not a "real" racer? oh yeah, i am. i love racing, and i love the people i meet. it's simple economics. black and white. the economy has affected my income. if i have $50.00, and it costs $100.00 to race, should i go anyway? you can make racing your priority all you want, but it costs money, and if the money isn't there, it's just stupid to go into debt so you can go further into debt. sweeten the pot? with what? promissory notes? monopoly money? barter? take a basic class in business, and get back to me. flame on!

Been on pause for a while now. Economic and other issues.

It pains me to see the country go to hell in a handbasket on OUR watch.

100% sure the best this country has seen is past,
unless of course you are in the top 2 percent.

Hopefully they will continue so the rest of us can watch.

I’m waiting for someone to start a sentence with… “When I was younger…” or have words to the effect… “20 feet of snow…”, “walked 35 miles…”, “continuously uphill…”, “…and that is what’s wrong with your generation!” or “…on a thimbleful of whale oil!”

"when i was younger", i had no obligations. "20ft of snow", no big deal. "walked 35 miles", no. only 5. "continuously uphill", only one way. "what's wrong with your generation", obvious. "thimbleful of whale oil", cod liver oil. YUCK! that krap should be illegal.

I never go far from home. Milan is just down the road, so I am lucky. I'll probably hit Norwalk for the Classic (are they even having that this year?) and that's the farthest I'll go. MAYBE Ubly, it's not far from my mom's house.

Tough times are here my friends and here to stay. While all out race cars are great , why not just build one you can just drive to track? A street strip car that will get you there and back. I realize when you are in the 10s and 9s that is not practical, but for me I will just drive my car to track and I don't care about the payout I do it for the fun of it, I see how fast I can go cheap and with tuning. If you break call AAA or have friends in towing business.

This thread is supposed to have logic? Really? Ok fine, I’ll start…

Please note the oil costs adjusted per inflation and compare today with June 2008 and Dec 1979. Although, I was reading today that crude hit $111 per barrel when news of the Libyan refineries being hit and that news reaching the ears of oil speculators.

I think I know what you mean now. Yes inflation adjusted oil/gas prices are inline, but most people aren't prepared for the price to CORRECT so suddenly.
Are you in the oil industry?
Thanks, Don

The gas prices are what they are. There is absolutely nothing we can do about.

For me, spending another twenty bucks in gas to get to Beaver Springs or some further away track is not exactly the biggest crisis I've ever faced in my life. Not by a longshot.

I turn on the news and see all this whining and crying and this "we're all gonna die" shrieks. I don't like it, and I realize that I'm in a different station of life than most (kids grown, house paid for), but it's like this....if I feel like going, I'm going. If I don't feel like, I'll stay home.

Control the things you can control, and don't worry about the things you can't.
