600 Eddy 1405 & if a 1406 (elec choke) will need to mod the pulloff & slow the elec choke activation. Had one on a 440 C boat & plenty of power. I would mod your dist initial/total/springs/vac adv IN ORDER & consider (re)working the worst system which is the single ex and adv the cam 4 deg EDIT reread that you already have headers. A/F ratio??

why would this combo get 5.74MPG.
3310 holley. ........... every other day i have to adjust the mixture screws .............. the carb is over 20 yrs old ............. does seem to run very rich
Is this a joke?
There is a REASON why just about every manufacturer went to a "spreadbore" 4bbl design. Thermouqd, Quadrajet, whatever that Autolite thing was called, it was all the same strategy
SMALL front barrels and BIG secondary barrels.
Additionally, what are you running for timing, have you checked that the advance mechanism in the distributor is working right, and how far does it advance? Have you checked the vacuum advance? How hot does the engine run?
What condition is the engine, mileage, compression? What is the chances that the timing chain / sprockets (they are not "gears") is darn near worn, or that it needs a valve job or worse?
DO NOT rebuild the 3310, SELL it for whatever you can get and either buy a much smaller carb or get a Thermoquad/ Quadrajet

RR .... that ? And there is no need on a basic cruiser combo this guy has to have to spend huge $$$ on a rebuild. ALL that is really needed is a good FSM to do the job. Now IF he choses the hi$$ rebuilder route ... say with DS ... I would hope he would put the vent tubes IN the carb top .. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Carb too big, try a 600-650 Edelbrock or Holley, with vacuum secondarys. Also Motorhome engines do not have enough compression to be effecient, you will need to put some smaller chamber heads, mill the ones you have or put some higher compression pistons in the motor. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif)

just another PIG-FAT Berri crab issue ... ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Get a good TQ and proper intake .... and you could probably TRIPLE that mpg !

Demonsizzler isn't doing the carbs anymore.

I was taking a break from carb work; my allergies have been so bad!
As for 'removal' of the vent stacks, I have been doing this for 25 yrs and it does work. If you run a drop-base air cleaner, it is necessary on T.Q.'S to shorten the stack if not remove it. Several carb builders remove the vent stack also. On a T.Q., it works well as there is little or no chance the gas can flow out of the vent due to a well designed vent system coming off the float chambers. Example pic:
