I haven't personally done it but I've seen some real hack jobs to get it on, can't be too bad but I wouldn't do it with the trans assembled.

I did my glide on one of the BIG band saws we had at work... I marked it on a surface plate with a height gauge then ran it through the saw then just touched up the edges... was pretty simple... the biggest part is indexing the bell on the pump

My tranny guy only charged me about $75 to have mine cut at a machine shop, I love it. Much nicer than dealing with a CSR shield on a big block a-body.

And how is that done? bolted up a JW bell today to a Dedenbear powerglide case and it seemed a little sloppy. No alignment pins? I would think it would have been machined some how to locate better. Indexing the bell on the motor wouldn't be a problem , but locating the bell on the transmission has me puzzled.
The ATI case has a locating boss on the outside of the pump housing, AFAIK the JW bell uses the pump bolts to locate the bell. Steve
I'll look at it again tomorrow, it has a Gm marked pump , it didn't seem to be a true flat surface either.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead
