I haven't turned anything into swiss cheese yet either. I know that I have only touched the surface of places for weight reduction.

Yes, they are functional. Do a search as they were discussed in depth less than a month ago. There are several options that were mentioned.

2 red top Optima batteries (96 lbs)

Wow.. I didnt know it was that much.. Thanks for sharing the info..

Guess I should get the scale out before I go spewing out numbers. I scaled the old batteries yesterday so I could take inventory and they were 39 lbs for one and 40 lbs for the other. So they are 79 lbs and not the 96 lbs I previously stated.

Ok, got some work done this weekend. Dash as removed from car with gauge cluster & (3) 2 1/16 Autometer ultra lite gauges = 31 lbs, Dash after removal of all of the unnecessary items (I haven't cut away any of it yet either) = 13.2 lbs. I am sure that after cutting and making it removable that it will be just a little over 10 lbs with the dash pad. No fiberglass dash required here.

That's right man, keep it all full-metal-jacket.
No plastics needed like plastic credit cards.
All metals like Titanium, inconel, stainless, aluminum, magnesium, and Gold. LOL.
All serious, I like your approach to the grass roots of hot rodding. Working with what metals you have and don't need on board.

A friend went that extra step with weight savings and dropped around 30 lbs himself!

I have a 68 Valiant where the original builder swiss cheesed most of the panels. The hood was quite light, on par with some of the fibre glass stuff I have seen.

I probably have less in my alum motor because my dad and I can do it ourselves and not pay a shop to do it all.

There is a block just like mine on ebay for $800.You aren't going to come close to putting a chromoly cage in a car for that.If you could I would have done it a long time ago. They want $3,500 and up in my area to do a car like mine.Besides My dad and I did my whole motor and it still took me 4 years to get all the money to build it.
