Do you honestly think it would still pull in 7 figures? What prospective buyer would spend that kind of money on something that still has someone else’s name on it?

I wonder if that is the same car herb McCandless raced at the Winternationals the year Ma Mopar made all the professional racers switch to SS I remember several other Steve Bagwell cars like the 1965 Plymouth A990 SS/BA car that a spectator put his finger through the left door scratching at a piece of junk on the name in gold leaf on the door at the 1974, 1975 or 1976 (CRS ) World finals at Ontario, CA

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

Just another car returned to the world of boring, and wondering if the paint drips are up to standard.

Have you payed attention to auctions ??? Cars with a racing hetitage will always find a buyer, look at the Ray Allen 1970 LS6 convertible sold in 2006 for 1.2 million.

Done as it is it's just another ho hum Hemicuda convertible ...

That Ray Allen auction was a perfect storm of greed intoxication and former glory. The Bagwell car doesn't have the back story that the Allen car did, and there's a lot less money being shoveled around in today's economy than there was then. Restoring the Bagwell 'cuda seems like the wise move, if the intent was to profit from a sale.

Howya been John?

One more point, I'm pretty sure the Ray Allen Chevelle wasn't restored to race condition. It just had decals slapped on the restored to stock car to give it the "look".

I hate seeing super stock cars turned back to stock but i get it. My dad had a factory lightweight hemi and i have known others that have them, and they don't command the money that I believe they should. A 64 aluminum front end/door hemi car seems to fetch as much as a bone stock AAR cuda. That to me is a sin, but it is the way it is. Slow stock and boring brings the $$$. Remember its usually not the car guy that loves the car buying a 7 figure hemi convert. Its usually someone looking for a better investment then stocks and oil paintings. Origional cars are a better investment.

I like it & believe it is better served financially in it's stock form. I bet a certain "Rick Treeworgy" will be paying close attention to the mentioned gm stick cars

OK....now to win the lotto

A little history on the car for those interested. No Cab, not a Herb car. This car was purchased by Alex Bowers in 1971 at Kelly Chrysler/Plymouth for $2400 as a used car. Already had a Warranty engine at 7000 miles. Alex kept it on the street for a few months. Its even in my college yearbook in the homecoming parade. The car was eventually taken to Barnett Race Cars and built into a SS/EA car in late 71. I got involved as a "silent" partner. Since I worked for Buster Couch in Div II and he didn't think I should have involvement in a SS car I was told my name was under the passenger seat. Wyman Barnett drove the car for a short time, then Terry Earwood took over since his ride with Bill Tanner was over when Bill quit racing. Terry did very good in the car and it held the SS/EA record in 1972. Alex sold the car to Steve Bagwell around January 1973 and Terry won the US Nationals with the car in 1973. Alex and I were both working the starting line at the race and Buster told us if we showed any emotion if Terry won he would kick our butts. Hard to just be calm but those who knew Buster know he would have kicked butt.
I don't know the timing of the second Bagwell Convert being built but likely around 76. It is still being raced by a member of Moparts.
As far as "thin" metal as Cab refered to, would you believe rust was a real problem around here during that time.

However, the car was sold again a couple years later for around $200K. Not the best investment in the world, was it.?

I haven't been paying attention to things for years, so I didn't know that. Sounds like karma to me.

Yes I saw that also , but considering the venue it sold for too much to begin with , but STILL it did fetch 7 figures , also did it ACTUALLY sell for 200kish or did the seller end up buying it back to protect his investment, as that seems to be the case at auction these days shilling is the norm.
