not a fan at all of BG but I hate to see any performance company go down.
I hope this helps Holley's situation as I believe it's been pretty bad there also

It seems to me that the carb business has been on the down hill for years now. Now with Nascar announcing FI for next year, I imagine that is big news in the carb business? Sucks sometimes because the times are always changing.

x 2 ...and this is why that operation should be producing and marketing a reliable and affordable DPFI system for the aftermarket.
THERE is more-to-this situation than is what being said now ...

"Its the economy stupid" to quote a famous president. I own a business and they are all hurting. Real unemployment at over 19%, people just don't have pocket money anymore and with gas over $3 a gallon and climbing its getting worse. I dont care how long you've been in business you need to be able to borrow working capital, those banks we bailed out now want to see every facet of your business before even considering it. And then "unless you don't need the loan" will turn you down. When states (Wisc, Ohio, Mich, etc) start going bankrupt its a lot worse than what your getting on your news station.

i see barry at the grocery store from time to time.. the last time...around thanksgiving..i said..how are things going...? and a guy who is usually sort of reserved yet up beat .. was kind of somber and not upbeat...i found it odd..but i figured ..we all have our bad days..? i suppose its been hard..like alot of us.. While i agree i think he got too big too fast and just couldnt keep up..from a service perspective. i sort of feel he figured it would always go in the upward direction..and at some point he would get a handle on it.. .I know he hired on anyone he thought would do a good job for him...but i didnt seem to pan out.....? he has alot of passion..and how can you fault a guy who took something from dirt..and made it as far as he did...? i am really surprised he couldnt sell it off..? anyway..i dont begrudge anyone who is trying to make it in this economy...especially someone in our industry.. no doubt the dead wood is falling off the tree. cheapst

Theres plenty of USA based company's such as Magnafuel and Product Engineering, doing just fine. BG was their own worst enemy. There customer service was horrible and their product was even worse. Not really surprised at all.

Consider yourself lucky
I had several freinds purchase and have problems
There is a 100 page thread on the bullet with upset people
One of my freinds, close freinds bought a 400 pump
He ran it in the garage, loaded the car
went to Nat event , ran a Q ..
Rained out the rest
Took the car up for 1st round of Super Gas and it died in the staging lanes
Pump locked
BG did nothing to service it, no warranty, no nothing
It was junk within maybe 5 gallons going thru it
They did not alow you to service them , no parts to fix them
Just a door stop now
I don't like to see people fail, hi-perf for sure I hate but, take care of your customer

OK we meet at the Mopar nats and since I was challanged it will be 68 hemi RR radio antennas at two paces. Actually, it was a quote and not personnel. Any business thats goes down decreases the number of customers. They catered to a segment and now that segment is either gone or looking for a new supplier. I never used a BG product so have no first hand knowlege but a lot of people did. Even the foreign junk has a market or it wouldn't be sold. The fewer businesses out there for us to select from the worse it is for us, not better. Its competition that created this great country of ours and the gov'ment is killing it.

my first thought too. both companies have great products and great service. BG had neither. BG's refusal to sell o-rings for their leaky pumps was the last straw for me. i feel bad for the former employees.

I just loved my BG 280 when I would be up in the staging lanes and fire up my car, I'd hear the BG pump working but no fuel pumping.I'd have to get out fast, keep a -10 AN wrench taped to the cell and crack open the return fitting to let the air out and bleed it. I know its the fuel pump since after I replaced it with a Product Engineering fuel pump my problems went away. Same with the POS regulator from BG. Sent it back because it wouldnt hold 6.5 PSI. It would climb to 13 psi, flooding out my motor. After $90.00 later, put it back on and same thing happened. So Product Engineering regulator went on a problem solved. Goodbye BG.

too, he was his own worst enemy, I bought one of his carbs back in 1999-2000, It was the carb they recammended, after having issues with it right OOTB i called them, all i got was the runaround & they tell me to send it in for tuneing & they wanted more $$$$, So in NO WAY do i feel sorry for someone like that, he deserves everything he got, We need to remember that, back in the day when times were hard, If you "screwed" someone ONE time it came back to bite you in the ass big time, many people have had the "GET RICH QUICK" mentality, it may have worked in the last 20 odd yrs., but now people are getting fed up & going back to the old thinking when it comes to shelling out $$$ for stuff, thats where companies like BG who pulled there stunts are NOW catching up with them.
Holley is still a great company, & now that times are getting tough, there doing what needs to be done when keeping there customers happy, I know this 1st. hand, they took care of me about 4 months ago & sent me a "brand new" carb from a junker e-bay 650dp i bought that the plateing was falling off, they could have told me tuff luck, but they didn't, good for them.

I just loved my BG 280 when I would be up in the staging lanes and fire up my car, I'd hear the BG pump working but no fuel pumping.I'd have to get out fast, keep a -10 AN wrench taped to the cell and
I hear ya , be in the fire up lane & arm the nitrous , no pressure , pull over, prime the pump........................

The HOLLEY bankruptcy filings, are completely over, all creditors taken care of, business restructured and looking very good. The problem was, when all those companies were bought, business was booming. With business slow, there was not enough cash flow to pay the interest on the loans. HOLLEY was never in danger of going under, it just got lean. Like I said though, things are good. Many laid off employees were brought back. We are once again paying contingency in certain areas. We are back on a truck at all NHRA national events and at many divisional races. Our own 18 wheeler and smaller trailer will be on the road this year, plus they bought me a Sprinter van, decked out in Holley livery. So again, Holley is in good shape and will likely have a rep at an event near you.
Many new products have been released in the past year, mostly our new Dominator EFI, but we also have new carbs, new fuel pumps, updated nitrous stuff, lots of LS based parts, new manifolds and are working on many other new things.
Like my boss told me "we still make millions of dollars a month, just not as MANY millions". We also now have a CEO who is a "real" car guy and that helps. He understands and wants to make, what the people want. He is also "hands on", competing last year in the Optima Challenge, as well as being on Power Tour.

Yeah, just because a company files bankruptcy doesn't mean there going under, could just be recooping, many businesses have been in that condition now & again but still in business, Holley owns alot more then some may think, but they obviously know what it takes too stay in business, good customer service is one of them .

That's good, I was wondering how it all panned out for them, I figured that it must of been over since it seem's like they are putting money back into the company for R@D, new product's and advertising.
as far as BG, never bought anything from them but many of my racer friend's have,, and that's why I have not.

There was something critically flawed in how that company was run. Since I never was part of it, I'm left to make semi-educated guesses at what the problem was. Am I happy that BG has gone out of business? Nope. Am I a die-hard BG supporter, considering I own two (2) of their expensive 4150 race carbs? Again, nope. I've got mixed feelings and experiences w/ BG, too. Here's my story: My Gold Claw was bought originally by Dwayne Porter, so HE got the "fun" of sorting out the screwed up OOB calibration, not me. Between the time he spent w/ it on the dyno and I spent w/ it at the track, it works really well and out-performed my trusty Holley 950 HP (80496-1) on both the track and the dyno. So, a couple of years ago I got a deal(?) on a low-use Demon RS from a board member here. There's actually a loooooong story behind that whole transaction , but what's applicable to this particular discussion is that I identified a number of manufacturing issues w/ the carb after tearing it down. Although the BG tech folks who had been posting on places like SpeedTalk, et al, had talked about how they (BG) were making major efforts to address QC issues from the past, I found dealing w/ them directly was disappointing. Instead of "No problem, we'll take care of it.", the attitude I got when trying to resolve those issues was closer described as "Yeah? Well, prove it...". Although I did eventually get the manufacturing problems fixed (but not to my 100% satisfaction - again, another story for another time), that experience really soured me on the company. After that, I decided unless I could tear it down on the spot and send all defective parts back (at no charge to me) for replacement, there was no way I would trust one of their carbs to be "ready to run" OOB. Now that they've closed up, that's never going to happen, either.

Quite honestly, I have seen very few people on any of the boards surprised that BG went under. He really committed financial suicide by his own hand.

Oh, I wonder if this means we'll be seeing Jeg's having a "BG Blowout!" sale soon.
Doubt it!

Hard to say... it's tough to still ask the regular price for a product for which there's nobody to stand (or hide ) behind the warranty any more.
I took a look at Jeg's BG inventory and noticed it was already looking kind of "spotty" on certain parts and carb models that I would have thought would have been common stocking items. BG was probably having problems keeping up inventory before deciding to pull the plug for good.
