The recent topic on roller lifters had me looking at the Comp Cams web site. Their old favorite BB Mopar roller lifter is 829-16. These have a solid lifter body (according to the picture), but the description says:

Is this a misprint?
Did they just put the same description (right or wrong) for all their roller lifters?
Have they added an oil hole to the side of the lifter?

I find all the sellers info inaccurate on comp roller lifters. When I looked up those 87019-16 you mentioned on the other post Jim they show a flat tappet and don't mention if it is a solid body and pressure feed wheel.

4 years ago,I went through the same thing I bought the Isky red zones for over $700 and when they finally arrived,there was no hole drilled in the body to allow the pressurized oil into the lifter body After several phone calls to Isky,I finally get the owner Rich on the phone.He said he could drill the holes and REBUILD MY NEW UNUSED lifters for $150 I reminded him about the advertisement that said" All red zone lifters come with EDM oiling" and why should I pay for thier mistake His reply was"just send my s*%t back and get a refund.So I did and you will never see an Isky product in my car,,,,,,,,,EVER!!! I went with the comp AMC lifter that has the edm oiling.Just had them rebuilt with this last engine freshen up,they had about 10k miles on them and 50 passes and looked great when they came out!! I also use the pushrod oiling on the exhaust only with no restricters and the oil pressure was reduced by 15psi at idle.Did the same on a wedge with p/r oiling on all 16 with the same 15psi loss.ARC did install restricters on this rebuild and we will see if that makes a difference in oil pressure

Actually I was referring to summit and jegs Jim I didn't even know comp had there own store. Back to your original point in the big print it says axle oiling N/A then in the fine print it says it is.

I purchased a new set of 829's back in "07" and again this past year, and there was no diff in the design.
Some lifters might have been changed, but more or less a marketing gimmick in my eye's.

The Comp advertising has been hit or miss for a while now on their Mopar lifters. Maybe they've had some turn over in people or something. Dwayne can probably sort it out for you if you give him a call. He works with Comp a lot and should have a handle on which part numbers are which.

I had a the same lousy customer service from Crower on their solid roller lifters. And I've had similiar problems with Isky. It seems that neither of those vendors really want to sell Mopar stuff.

I'd be happy to find someone that could put EDM oiling holes in a standard set of roller lifters! Anyone know the diameter of the hole??

Comp says in the instructions to NOT idle the car long because the lifters rely on splash oiling to live. I run them one season and then sell them in the fall on Craigslist. It cost me about $100.00 to start each season with new lifters. Dyno

Can somebody make some measurements on a set of Comp roller lifters? It doesn't have to be exact, maybe within 0.005" with a set of calipers would be fine.

I have a set of used lifters (seller said they were 892's and I think they are), the attached are my approx measurements. Specifically, I don't know what Comp uses to define "pushrod seat height"?
The 1.777" number was the biggest points I could think to measure, and the pushrod seat is machined at that point (middle of seat is about flush with top on these lifters). Comp says the 892s have a pushrod seat height of 1.91", wheel dia 0.800"
Comp says 87019s have a pushrod seat height of 1.91"
Comp says the 829s have a pushrod seat height of 1.79"

What ever you have is fine, 829, 892, 87019, etc.

I have the Crower solid roller lifters with oiling. They are part number 66299H-16 which are based on 66291X903H. Essentially they are .903 diameter BB Chevy lifters with a straight bar. So far they have worked great.

let me know if you need another measurement Jim. The top of the body to the push rod seat was a little tricky, there is a oil hole directly in the center, and the caliper stub wanted to slip down into it...That measurement provided is dang close though..within the .005 you wanted anyways.

I can't figure out what dimension Comp is calling pushrod seat height. But at least it shows the 829 is not as high as the 892.

Is this what you are saying? (I modified your sketch).
I will post a modified one of mine to show the pushrod seat I am talking about.

Here is what my 892s look like in the seat area, with your depiction of the roller (which I didn't show in my original sketch, just to show the wheel).

This is to help get a handle on the push rod length difference using the various lifters.

It's kinda hard to measure but I took another stab at it. I just took a adjustable 3/8 pushrod and colored the end of it with a white paint stick. I simply measured down to the very upper edge of the white line.
Took a quick photo with Thomas the Tank engine's help LOL. This should be how Manton or Smith Bro's measure for "effective length" when ordering push rods? I may be wrong on that however. So
its
.4375 down from ledge of lifter to the top of the white colored mark in the cup.

I went out and got my better set of calipers and re measured a bit. The over all length is 1.9955 maybe advertised as 2" inch over all lifter body length...
Anyways it would measure 1.562 from bottom of wheel to the top of the white paint (top of cup)

I ran a set of 892 lifters this year and didn't really like how far down the lifter body went in the bore when on the base circle of the cam. It seemed hard on the bore. Why all the different body lengths and heights in their lifters. I understand oil band or no oil band but why all the other option in heights?

Did the top of the lifter body (round part) actually drop below the top of the lifter bore? If so, by how much?
How much lift was the cam?

I did a mock up a couple months ago with the 892 lifter and a 0.460" lobe lift roller cam. I was looking at the oil band (cut out) and it seemed fine in relation to the oil galley (no bushings) at all lift positions. I don't recall the top of the lifter going below the top of the lifter bore. I will look for that when the block comes back from the machine shop.

I don't know why there is so much variation in part numbers, but I suspect the 892s were originally designed for a Ford/Chevy block machined for the larger dia, and since that dia is common with Mopar, they put link bars on them to fit a BB Mopar block.

Jim yes the round part of the body goes below the top of the lifter bore ( .250-.300). If I put a 829 in the hole it is about flush with the top of the lifter bore. Off the top of my head I think the lobe lift was around .440.
