August 7 of 1970 and they are screwed in. Speacial screw also it has a shoulder on it so they can not be over tightened. My 74 is strictly snapped in.

Thanks 340cpe for your input. You raise another interesting question on what type screws were used. Are they a phillips head or ??.

I'll have to go and look at my '71 R/T when I'm in the storage barn next.

Sounds like GETX has the holes but that they hadn't ever had screws.

My question is do the screens themselves have the holes or the molded in areas for them if your car didn't use the screws? The point would be could you just drill holes in the screens to use screws.

I guess I should pay attention next time I see a b-body in the junkyard. Don't see many '71-4 ones anymore.

Heres what I have.
71RR 10/70 screws only
71 Sat N/A and a 72 SSP 5/72 screws with snaps.
Have 8 more 71-73's that use snap in ones.
Have 2 74's both 11/73 that have snaps and no screw holes in the cowl.
So:
71/3 cowls have both screw and snap holes.
Sometime for 74's the screw holes in the cowl were deleted.
Earlier 71 screens have screw holes only and no snap tabs.
Mid 71 through 74 screens have both screw holes and snap tabs.
Atleast thats what I found on my cars.

These screens should be the same between 2 and 4 door cars right?

Excellent information. It looks like you have zeroed in on about the time of transition from screws to no screws and/or holes in the cowl. Very interesting. It looks like my Jan/71 build car falls about in the middle of that transition

Great info. That explains why a 71 R/T owner that I gave a 71 upper cowl to.....basically did not believe it to be from a 71.

Round head phillips.

Not to complicate this issue any more then it already is, but another interesting fact regarding the screws used. According to the following Ebay listing, Two different style screws were used. Phillips and hex head Can this be for real? Can anyone confirm the hex head?

My 71 RR with SPD Dec 16 has screw only screens but it looks like the cowl has provisions for snap in vents.

I agree with Moparmarks. Also, "round head phillips" is AKA-pan head screws, same thing. Personally, I'd stay away from that ebag listing.

I figured as much. I think the guy on Ebay is just trying to sell some screws.

My car was built in St Louis and you can still see a couple of the original rusty wide panhead phillips that have never been out. These screws do not have the waferhead offset like is common on other areas like the lower windshield molding or upper door channel molding for instance.
