This isn't rocket science; the 383 and 440 are the same basic engine using the same heads, ect. If you were to build your engine to a nice 1hp per cu then the 440 is going to have 57 more hp all things being equal and that is too much to ignore.
I'll put it another way: you'll give up approximately 15 percent going with the 383.
So, if the choice is between a bone stock 383 or a bone stock 440 and correctness isn't an issue then the choice to go with a 440 is a no-brainer......BUT, If I had an original 383 RR, I would build a 383 or 400 stroker to retain the B engine but with an RB kick.
