If you want a VERY narrow powerband.
It would have awesome throttle response, but peak low.

No, the factory didn't even put a two barrel on a 440, even with the tiny cam that came in the regular low performance engine. The smallest I would is a 600 cfm 4 barrel.
It will work, but you're really choking that engine.
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

Would a holley 350 two barrel carb be enough for a 74 440? It will be for off road use if it makes a difference and it is a stock motor. Thanks in advance.
I suppose in the right application (pickup truck just doing light chores never over 4000-4500????) it would be fine.
Any sort of WOT work (full-throttle)? Not so ideal.

I guess b/c I have one sitting around. Anybody have a 500 or 600 2 barrel they want to sell? I'm not wanting a 4 barrel for this one for gas reasons.
4 Barrel carbs get a bad rap for mpgs. A small 4 barrel can actually deliver really GOOD mpg if the driver keeps his foot out of it! Think about it, if the secondaries are not used, what do you have? A small 2 barrel! (in effect)
Oh, AND, BIG 2 barrels (like 500-600cfm) usually provide poor throttle response AND poor mpg. Don;t go that route!!!

you have what sitting around? as mentioned before no 440 EVER came w/ a 2bbl so you'd have to use an adaptor. A stockish 440 w/ a small 4bbl should get 15+mph.

Are you sure it's for an RB block? If it is, it's a very scarce 413 truck intake.

The "small" cfm 4 bbls work better, especially if you have the standard 440 (non-Magnum or C-body 440) cam. Either 600 Holley 4160, 625 Eddy AFB/ 650 AVS OR the 340 750-800 cfm TQ. The TQ, when set up correctly, will get good gas mileage for its cfm rating. Never count it out!! Any one of these carbs would be okay for what you desire to do with the motor. Trial and error jetting and ignition adjustments will get you to your goal.

THIS is why the ThermoQuad is such a good piece. But do NOT let a died-in-the-wool Berri-Bumz try and tweak it.
