I mean I'm not sure what I would regret about a HEMI 4 speed car, other than it doesn't have a wing and a nose cone.

In the long run, them are two very big items!!!

That is my thinking too. I mean its not like I could just pick up the HEMI 500, get it going again, and looking good, have some fun with it, and when ready just trade it for a Daytona.
However then again it would be my first experience at driving a true HEMI car. I have driven a few HEMI GTX's that a buddy of mine has, but the 2 i drove of his now have 528 crate HEMI's in them, however they are both a true HEMI cars.

On the hunt for my dad's old cars. They include 5 Daytona's, 2 superbirds, and 2 500's. Very interested in finding the Red on Red Daytona, and Q5 Charger 500, and have found both cars.

I was looking over the Vin list, and noticed the car (551) is on the list car 219 on the shipment list sent new to Indiana, and the car (547) was sent new to Daytona beach. Would be interesting to have a Daytona that was sent new to Daytona beach. Sorry to hear of a car being stolen in the past.

I like the picture of the back of the car, with the 2 diecast models on the decklid. Notice the Q5 Daytona, and a white superbird. Both very good selections.
Then again I wouldn't turn down the Daytona even with its nose cone modifications.

True you wouldnt turn down a modified nose or any daytona. But you would want to research its past by the vin in the clubs .To see if it was rescued from a junkyard or any known club history on it for example .Like if all that remained of it was a vin in a envelope

Hey troy, have you got the 440 back up and running in the 500? I had read some of a thread that you were having some problems with it since the refreshing of the motor.

Yeap,,, She's running just fine and as a matter of fact, my wife was so kind as to drive the Ram/trailer back to Houston so I could be part of the Charger caravan back to Houston. Dana(C500) ran flawlessly.... But, there's a definite difference between the 4bbl on there now and the 6bbl I had on there before..

Yeah Dave, felt a little nostalgic while I was repairing the cam. Wanted to put the original 4bbl back on...

Wow, I guess you guys don't recognize that Daytona! That's Doug Croxford's friend's car (I can't remember his name) out of the Cleveland area. The original color of it is Q5 and it was bought out of Berrien Springs, Michigan. The car made an appearance at the 1984 Mopar Nationals in Indy.

Here's a funny story about that car. Back in 1992, we took the red, white and blue Bird out to Union Grove, Wisconsin for a race out there. On the way home along I-94 in southwest Michigan a trucker saw the Bird on the trailer and keyed up his C.B. and asked if we had our radio on in the truck. He then told us that off of the very next exit, there was a car just like that about five miles down off of the exit. It was getting late and it had been a long weekend so we decided to come back the next week and follow up on the lead. We came back armed with several pictures of winged cars and started slowly driving around in the area where the trucker told us to look. There was nothing sitting out so we started pulling in driveways and going up and knocking on doors and showing the pictures and asking if anyone knew of a car like the ones in the pics in the area. The woman at the third house said "Oh yeah!" and directed us to a house a few doors down and across the street. We went up to the door and asked the guy and sure enough, he said "Yeah, I have a Daytona!" He took us out back and showed us the car shown in the pics. The car was a mess and the engine was out of the car and laying on the ground. The body was rough and the nose was also off of the car but like it is in the pics shown above. He wanted $12,000 for it at the time which was just a little too steep for a car that needed so much. Yeah, I know, in today's world, it would have been a steal.

Anyways, Doug's friend bought it several years later for around $8,000. He's done a good bit of work to it and got it to the point where it is driveable and enjoyable. He even drove it down to the Talladega wing meet in 1999. The engine compartment is all back to Q5 and looks very nice. It's still got a long ways to go but man, what a cool car!

So that is the same Q5 Daytona that were discussing the other day on the phone john? Hmmm, I just assumed that after talking to the gentleman at last years Mopar Nats that he had it paintd back to Q5, and that is was nearing completion. I wasn't thinking it would still be painted blue.

On a side note, if all goes well this post will probably double in size if I get all the film developed that I just unearthed in a box. I was going through the boxes of stuff I have from when I was a child, and low and behold all my dad's negatives from the many years of photo taking in the late 70's and early 80's. I have probably 50 rolls of film full of car pictures from the early 80's and such. Noticed about a dozen shots of doug's car, a dozen of the diamante, a dozen of the chrysler turbine car. Probably a few rolls of cars at Mike Atkins in the 80's, and Jim Walton's collection. I believe that there are 4 or 5 pictures of Jerry J.'s purple Daytona. There is at least 2 rolls from the 1979 meet in michigan.

Hey john, do you remeber when we were talking about the daytona from the Happydayz website at the Chrysler classic? Well I talked to the owner about the car and he also said its the same car as in this picture. I emailed him over the 5 pictures I had of this car from the show in Indianapolis. That is the only time that I have any pictures of the car. Beautiful car, however does anyone else notice the strange driver's side mirror? And who likes those rims?

I was just sitting here and thinking. How many of your guys are planning on attending the Mopar Nationals this year? I have only meet John in person, and I think it would be unique to meet up with everyone who has been posting on this thread at a show and just shoot the breeze in person. I mean look at how many stories have been thrown around in this thread, imagine the conversation if say 5-7 of us got together at the nats one night for dinner. I know I can talk for hours about cars and not be bored especially when it comes to wing cars.
Another thing i'm looking forward to this years nats to see tons of chargers, and hopefully plenty of Daytona's and 500's too. in the past 5 years i've only seen 1 500 at a show, and 8 different Daytonas in the past 5 years too. Looking forward to seeing a few new one's this year hopefully. maybe i'll even have one by then.

Wow, I guess I've been absent from this thread for a while!

Danny, yep, that's the same q5 Daytona we were talking about when you called on the phone last week! Small world huh? I think it still may be a while before the whole car gets painted back to Q5. Hey, that's great news that this thread is gonna double in size! I can't wait to see more cool pics from your dad's archives! That's too cool that the picture you have from the old days is the Daytona from the HappyDayz site! Nice mirror and rims from back in the day! Now about that idea of yours of getting all the wing guys that have posted in here together at the Nats. I can just imagine a get together like that lasting well into the wee hours of the morning and prolly on into the next day! Especially if ya get ol' Rick Edwards talking! Sounds like it would be a really good time though!

Dave, now that I think about it, the guy in Berrien Springs who owned the Q5 Daytona's name was Phil. Or is that Doug's friend that bought the car whose name is Phil? Heck, I can't remember!
