I need to put a 6pt roll bar in my 67 Coronet. I am thinking to come down through the rear speaker holes and into the trunk for the rear braces. I would like to also install the rear seat though. How is this done with the roll bar installed? Will the seat still fit? Pics would be nice if you have em.

Thanks.

You have to run the cgae up along the roof as close as you can then drop them back t hru the speaker holes. Even w/ all that it is VERY hard to get in and out of the back seat. Looking at that E-body i wonder even if it will be possible w/o a ton of effort. Maybe if you made the pass seat track flip forward like on some 2 door SUV's it might work.

these bars would have to go. Not sure what class this cage is for maybe they are required. But not a chance I could get my 6'1" frame back there. I'd run the uppers along the roof and then drop them thru the package tray.

My Morrison kit does just that.........bars follow the roof and drop through the speaker holes.
It will be tough for the kiddies to get back there , but I'll never ride back there , so what do I care.
A large adult WILL have their work cut out for them.
Better to have them follow in their car and give them rides one at a time.

cage was never meant to have anyone (person) back there. just to be able to retain the the rear seat. more of a set up really, like "hey my car isn't fast it still has a back seat in it

I left my door panels in when the cage went in, but I can still get them in and out. Can't help you on the seats.

I'll see if I can dig up some pics, but I have full size passengers in the rear of the Charger on a regular basis. You simply must resign yourself to go under the bar face up after going over the door bar andbehind the front seat. You get used to it just like getting used to going over a door bar and in to the front seat.

Your title says "use" and then "install". Need to define "use". There is hardly any street use safe way to have passengers in the back seat with a well designed cage, unless getting hit in the head with a 1 5/8" steel baseball bat at 50 mph is OK, and foam without a helmet is useless, or they are your inlaws

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Mines bent up close to the C pillars and padded. I'm 6.0 and can sit there ok. I had to install the seat through the rear window opening. Other times I've cut the front lower wire/bar of the seat frame so you can fold it somewhat. The wire can be held together with a piece of tubeing slid to the side and then back over the cut area after installation.

Yes, I suppose I should clarify.. I would like to install the back seat and rear inner panels. I am not concerned with anyone sitting back there.

I just don't want to install the role bar and then find out I can't put the back seat back in the car.

Thanks for all you input.

I'll be following this thread because I'm planning to do the same for my 67 Coronet in the Spring. I know S&W offers good kits but would like to see it done. Pics would definitley be beneficial here.

Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't want to be a backseat passenger in a car with a cage. Bouncing your head off of a steel bar wouldn't be fun. Even in a very low speed fender bender.

Mike take the car with the rear seat to the shop you have the bar put in and tell them you want to be able to pull the seat out , problem solved .

My bars follow the roof line and drop through the speaker holes, A body. The rear seat was not too bad to install, the passengers front seat does have to be out to get it in though.

I will never let anyone ride in the back seat of my car as long as it has a bar in it. Not only is hard to get in and out of the bars would hurt you more than than even a low speed accident would IMHO. Not a chance I'm willing to take.

Mike, I have an 10 point rollcage done in my 67 Belvedere. The 2 rear bars were custom bent to go down through the speaker holes. The front seat had to be out and the rear seat had to be sneaked in between the main hoop and rear bars with the rear windows rolled down- but it went in and there it will stay. I get some pics on here later today for all to see.
How's the rest of your project coming along?

Here are a few shots of 67autocross's 67 dart build.

Nicely fitted roll bar.

The 2 main bars made it impossible to install the rear seat so we cut the seat in half, welded in additional supports and added mount tabs then had the upholstery shop make it look pretty again. Make sure to add extra foam in the seat spilt line. Adding the extra foam made it hard to see the spilt. Now my 2 little boys can enjoy rides to the local ice cream stands and car shows again

Here's how I did my challenger....the rear seat went in no problem and is usable even by adults.
I had to bend the main hoop in to allow clearance for the door panels.
