I am always skeptical of EFI system that claim to tune themselves without the need for you to tune it with a laptop. I sure do hope their system at least gives you the ability to tune manually with a laptop in case the system is unable to properly tune itself in a given instance. It could be a good system, and sure does have a nice looking throttle body/fake carb there. Also, the system is still going to be a TBI injection system. You still have to deal with the deficiencies of a carb intake. IE fuel/air distribution, still need good vacuum for a very streetable setup, etc. With say port EFI, you can throw all those old carb rules out the door like engine vacuum, intake design, etc. But with a system like this, those same rules would still apply. I'm sure their system would still be a little better than a carb, but IMO you'd probably be just as well off if you bought a nice holley carb and a wideband o2 and spent some time tuning the carb on the primaries, secondaries and tweaking the choke. But I have no actual experience with their kit, but it just seems to me like they're just trying to sell you efi with the idea that it is strictly a bolt-on and go like a carb.

Sure they will. But seriously, I have done some research online a few months ago, and all I've read are bad things. Of course, I take everything on the web with a grain of salt, but it seemed theye were a few frustrated users that couldn't get customer service, IIRC. But, hey, don't blame me for starting rumors, do some research at hotrodders.com, I think that's where I found some info.

that's info that needs to be published in follow ups in the magazine...
did he elaborate on the glitch that killed the box? was it a problem with the retrotek system or improper installation (i.e. a short, etc) that killed it?

And that's why we read the internet (and in my case stay away from MM)...Thanks Rich. Ran

Why do you need good vacuum for street with a TBI and not a SMPI? Does the fact that the injector is squirting fuel at the back of a closed intake valve over 50% of the time at WOT with a SMPI negate the advantages of even air/fuel distribution. I'm thinking of going with a Holley 4bbl TBI and a Megasquirt system. I can't put fuel rails on an old car. It just looks like [Edited by Moparts - Keep it clean] to me.

The point is when you hit the throttle, a map sensor for either tbi or mpi will instantly detect a vacuum change, but with a tbi, the engine still has to suck the fuel from the throttle body, down the runners to the valve. With port efi the fuel is right there. There is no delay in transit time. TBI will still be more responsive than a carb, but still not as good as port injection. It's a good middle ground, especially if you don't like the look of fuel rails.
