I like my Indy on my 440-1 heads...made 60hp more than the Indy x-ram. About 1 1/2in of clearance to the scoop. 337 is a good piece also. Have Radar clean either up and port match 'em! Happy Holidays Ted.

The Indy single plane intake is a good race piece. It may not run the cleanest on a "small" (440 CID) motor with a large cam (276 degrees at 0.050"), at 2000 rpm, but it works great with a high stall converter, etc.

Buy the Indy 440-3 intake and if you can fit a 2 inch phenolic or wood clover leaf spacer on it try that Using a 440-2 with a tapered spacer just adds phenum volume, adding the two inch cloverleaf spacer on the 440-23 does the same thning. Monte Smith has debunct the 440-2 w/ the tapered adapter myth

I have only used the Indy valley covers. Dwayne used the right stuff to seal them up and never had an issue with leaks.

What do you have left to do?

If that works for Dwayne...That is good enough for me! As far as what is left...Get ladder bars installed..Front brakes put on,get the heads done..buy new intake, needs new slicks..I may go waay over budget here!!

My low deck has Indy heads and their valley plate. The gap to the heads is pretty small, maybe 0.030", and with gray silicone it never leaked or even hinted at leaking. To get it off for this winter's freshen up, I ran an Exacto knife blade down it to cut the seal.

I wouldn't expect they're going to pick up that much going to a MW entry, just because the rest of the runner in that particular head is fairly limited. IMO, the gain will come from being able to use a less restrictive intake to support the large(r) engine, not from major gains in head flow.

I think there are only 3 choices for RB, MW and 4500. Those choices are the Indy 440-3, 440-3X and Edelbrock Super Victor. (B1 intake can be used with adapters but frankly that is an expensive and painful way to go these days)

The 3X is very large, the 440-3 and the SV are similiar. I've used all of them and I'm not sure I can tell the difference on the dyno. They might work differently at the track. I'd probably buy the Edelbrock if it was my motor but I'd run the Indy intake if I had one on hand.

I plan to run the Indy dual plane intake on the eng I am building. It will have EZ heads and be 493 cubes. They say its a great intake for a street/strip car like mine. Ron

The Indy DP is a good manifold but it isn't MW or 4500. It can be opened up to the MW port size and an adapter can be used for the 4500 carb but that is extra work and money.

Andy Why do you prefer the Victor? They are similar in price correct?
In fact BM had 440-3 for $305 a couple weeks ago.
Thanks, Don

I'm a huge fan of the Indy 2d, especially in MW form and additional radius work in the lower plenum....a 360 CFM dual plane is a pretty serious piece that will keep pace with most of the heads out there. There's at least 30HP in the radius work out of the lower plenum, the upper plenum is pretty much good to go once you open up to MW.

I too wish it was available with a 4500, I've thought to take mine to see if it can be Bridgeported (and I was secretly hoping Andy might have already sized this up ); but my pro-systems 4150 1000hp seems to be doing fine....6800rpm at 517 cubes. To be honest it runs so good I haven't thought to open the hood on the car in a couple months

My combo (380cfm heads) leaves some top end power on the table that I might need a single plane and a .700 lift cam to reach my in my old age I guess I'm very happy to leave well-enough alone...I can't bring myself to do anything that would alter the Formula 1-like throttle response and roll-on torque of this badazz dual plane.

Those choices are the Indy 440-3, 440-3X and Edelbrock Super Victor.

What is the height comparison between them?

I see the regular Victor listed as 6.1" on the Edelbrock site, but I don't see the manifold height listed on the Super Victor?

From the Indy catalog, the 440-3 is 6.75"
and their 440-3X says 8.4"!

The early ones didn't have the port dividers come up under the carb. like yours and the base was not clover leaf like yours, is what I remember I saw one early one (440-3) before I bought my 440-3 which is like yours, have you seen a 440-2? If so they (early 440-3) look like the -2 but with the 4500 base and bolt pattern

Rich,
You really need to start a new topic for your question, but a quick 2-cents:

That looks like the latest casting.
The top of the runner dividers under the cloverleaf are cast and not machined like the previous version.
There may have been a much earlier version also. Those intakes didn't have the 4 large, oval injection bosses, but rather 8 small round bosses slightly higher on the runners.

We need some Indy Intake pics and carb height dimensions to add to the Moparts.com Tech archive.
BB Intake Pics

My attachement is an old 400-3, and the injector bosses have been fitted with injectors, but you can see the old style Indy lettering, and the smaller, round, bosses.

Now you need to switch to a cam w/ about 15 degrees more duration and .100" more lift that fits the rest of the new combination.
