Heard back from my friend in Minnesota. He talked to Dennis Loeffler this past week. Dennis says he still has his Black Superbird, but it need a full restoration and he is lacking enthusiasm at this time to do it.

Is that the black Bird with the flames? If so, I'd be enthusiastic as all heck to put it right back to black with the flames!!!

Cool, glad to hear it's still around. I wonder why it needs a total resto though seeing as how it was so nice back in the '80's???

Hey, I was just gonna go looking for this thread! Thanks for saving me the trouble and BTTing it for me Dave!

Here's a very rare pic of the original Sox & Martin Superbird after it was sold to the owner of a dragstrip down in Louisiana and raced under the name SuperChicken. The car was later crashed and raced with a '70 Road Runner front clip and no wing. This is a digital pic I took of a pic that was printed out on a computer. I resized it for easy loading. If anyone wants to see the fullsize pic, lemme know and I will email it on over to ya.

I can't say where the car is right now but it is still in existence. There may be a major breaking news story in the near future on the car. I'm not sure if it had a VIN or was a body in white as there are some interesting stories about S&M cars and VIN numbers. We may find out really soon.

I was under the belief that there were 2 S & M birds. First the C/MP car and also a street car. The Sox & Martin book shows the street car in a couple of pictures with no fender scoops and no hood scoop. Other publications show the C/MP car with a 6 pack hood scoop and no fender scoops. Years ago a winged warrior newslwtter spoke of 2 cars. Are there 2, and if so where is the second? In the 70's I saw the Tosten & Jennings/ Jack Werst car and it was pretty trick, however I didn't believe that car had anything to do with the S & M cars. The Jennings car had fender scoops back then.

I've always wondered about the whereabouts of the second car too...

There was only ONE Bird - talked to Ronny and Herb about that - they just changed eng/trans/hood, etc. depending on what class they were racing that weekend w/ the car. I'd heard that there were two also - so I asked and they both told me the same thing. Hope that helps, Reed in Ne.
