Oh yeah, and John, i'm on the look now for a Charger 500 or a Daytona. I think the wife will let me swing a loan for one, as long as the payments come out to a reasonalbe amount. I sold the 69 sunroof car today, the guy is going to be picking it up in a few weeks. So in the mean time I can begin looking. anyone have any ideas on what a classic car loan is getting for an interest rate these days?

On the hunt for my dad's old cars. They include 5 Daytona's, 2 superbirds, and 2 500's. Very interested in finding the Red on Red Daytona, and Q5 Charger 500, and have found both cars.

Yeeeee-haaaaaa!!! A thousand replies and counting! Unreal!

Danny, congratulations on the wife going for 500/Daytona loan! That's awesome! I guess now the hunt's really on! It's only a matter of time now. Oh, and yes, Wayne's #99 car is indeed an original Hemi Daytona. One of it's darkest moments though was at the Talladega event in 1999 right after one of it's brightest moments. At Friday's festivities at the Talladega track, the folks from Dodge Motorsports asked Wayne if he would bring the #99 Daytona over to where they were holding their press conference to announce that Dodge would be returning to NASCAR in 2001. After an entire day of the #99 car being in the media spotlight, Wayne left the track late in the afternoon and began the 50 mile drive back to the motel in Birmingham. A little ways down the road, he ran into Carol Croxford and Doug Schellinger's mom who were stranded on an exit ramp on I-20 in Carol's B-5 Blue Superbird. Wayne missed the exit and was on the shoulder just beyond the exit. Wayne then attempted to back up across the exit ramp. At that same moment, some dude on a Harley decided from three lanes out, that he was getting off at that exit. He swerved across all three lanes right as Wayne was backing across the ramp. The Harley took out the entire driver's side of Wayne's Daytona. The guy on the Harley was messed up pretty good and Wayne got knocked around inside the Daytona a little but was OK. Wayne went home to Kansas and got a flatbed (he had driven the Daytona all the way to Talladega) and the car is back to being just as good as new.

Dave, it was Vernon Judy's "Winged Warrior" salt flats Hemi Daytona that lost the wheel in front of Dave and it was the brake drum that rolled into the very bottom of Dave's quarter panel. Miraculously, all it did was mess up the bottom of the stripe a little bit. That really was an ugly weekend for Hemi Daytonas...

I don't think they were able to coordinate again this weekend. It sure would be cool to see Danny get that car back.

Try JJ Best Banc. They specialize in collector car financing. Must be a complete running car. They will not finance a basket case. One of our club members used with with good results. Thier requirements are pretty painless. They offer different rates depending on the length of term. Their website is www.jjbest.com

Another one I've heard of is Putnam Leasing. They advertise "custom tailored lease to own financing for your dream car". www.putnamleasing.com

Are you coming back in October 2004? It's going to be as big, and we have a great lineup of guests coming.

Alrighty then, I will check and see what kind of interest rates are available for a classic car loan. It appears on the one site they are as low as 3.95% which wouldn't be bad, I was anticipating like 10-12%. The way i'm looking at it now, my maximum price range is going to be around $55,000. I have $17,000 cash now, and figure i could swing a loan for the rest. Not sure of any cars that fit in that price range currently but I have plenty of time to look.

OH yeah, and I still haven't seen my dad's old red on red daytona. I'm hoping to go see it in 2 weeks, considering next weekend is easter so i don't think i'll make it over there that weekend.
Then again I would love to also be able to get the Q5 500 back too.

I'd love to Doug, but I've been out voted this year
Our annual NASCAR pilgrimage is to Homestead in November with some non-Mopar friends - they're into Harleys and Hot Rods
Hope to make it to the Nats in Columbus tho...

Just curious here Doug, but how often does the Daytona Superbird club have a meet? I know there is a joint meet between the two clubs every 5 years, and that he winged warriors have a meet every year. But it seems i've found more friendly people through the daytona superbird club. don't get me wrong the people i know in both clubs are friendly to me at least.

Danny, for some odd reason, the Winged Warriors club refuses to participate in the every five years Talladega event. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to participate in the kind of awesome event at Talladega that Doug Schellinger and Tim Wellborn put on.

Hmmmm, thats odd. But I guess it would only make sense if they didn't wanna participate in a show that they weren't in control of. However there is quite a few people who are in both clubs and would still know about the show. I thought there was a write up about the show in each of the newsletters from winged warriors though.

Yup, they list the show in their calendar of events but are sure to point out that they will not be participating. I think I remember hearing that it has something to do with the fact that the other half of their club, the NBOA (National B-Body Owner's Association) is not allowed to participate in the race-day parade lap of the Talladega Superspeedway. You're right though that a lot of people belong to both clubs and go anyway. Sure seems like an odd reason to miss the best winged car meet on the planet that's only held once every five years though...

There probably is some truth there... Aside from the initial desire some years back to keep it an all "Aero event", the real issue becomes manageability of a large group. With almost 150 cars, there is the potential of doubling the size with B-bodies. I'm not saying that is a bad thing either. But there issues with marshalling all those cars and getting them on and off track in the allotted time slot.

However... in 1999, there were some B-bodies that showed up and were not turned away, participated in the entire meet and did the parade lap. And there will be a few there this time in 2004 as well. I pretty much have turned a blind eye, and if someone really wants to come, and asks about bringing a non aero B-body or Torino, I've said, "come on down". We haven't gone out of our way to advertise it. We have not discriminated or been hard-liners. They raced conventional B-bodies during that period. And nobody in the stands is going to care about a few extra cars.

I personally am of the opinion that if you want to come to an event, you should do so.

Well, this year we are doing Belvedere IL in July, and Talladega in the fall. Winged Warriors are doing Rapid City SD and Monster Mopar as their major '04 events. There really have not been any jointly planned events between the two clubs since 1998 in Ohio. I would like to see our two groups work closer together on future meets, since there are so many common members in both clubs. Aside from the every five-year thing at Talladega, the turnouts both groups seem to get are on the light side - typically about 30 cars. On the surface, it's not bad. But with 600 members in each group, that's a pretty light attendance. The wing meet at Monster Mopar seems to be gaining momentum, which is a good thing for all.

One day mini meets are always encouraged. So Danny, if you want to set something up in Indy, or maybe Auburn, we're always open for suggestions and can provide assistance. The big deal is just getting someone to say, "Yes, I want to do something."
