Going to look at a 68 Barracuda notchback today and wanted to get some production info. It's a factory AC car with AT on the column. Supposed to be #'s matching 340 car. Wondered about production #'s on those. It would be a 1st year 340 car so thought they may be low. I believe these were normally /6 or 318 cars. Can anyone give me any help on this. I'm a B and E body guy for years and never owned an old Cuda. Any specifics to look for on this year Cuda would be a big help also. Thanks.

They made less than 68 340 fastbacks. I think the production of my 68 340 auto notchback is like a little under 350. But they sell for less than fastback. Rarity does not always equal desirability.

Of all 68 to 71 340 cars, I'd say it's about the lowest valued. Close but under 69 340 swinger and 70 duster.

Auto on the colunn hurts it a lot. IMHO, so does the A/C.

BTW, my car was orginally a column auto. But I paid less than the cost of adding the running 340 drivetrain/suspension/suregrip to another 318 doner car. Of course that was 1994 and I've with it ever since. Even with the std bore numbers matching motor.

Actually I have always wanted a 67-69 hatchback car. This notchback has kinda come along by accident. It's a two owner car and the guy who has it now is mid-70's. The car has about 70K miles on it and is all original so I believe I'm going to get it, assuming it's a real 340 car. I have been digging my fender tag codes and VIN info to verify it.

I have not much to add except I just love 68 340 Formula S' and a notchback is 50# lighter than a fast back. I think it's a cool find.

Is the mid 300's number the 4spd amount? I think I flipped the production numbers in my head.

Andy, how do you think the 68-69 340 notchbacks lineup in terms of 68-71 340 A-bodies?

As soon as I get some pics I'll post them. Guy doesn't want much for it so I expect to have it in my garage with the others pretty soon. Assuming it's what he says it is. Hopefully will be able to post some pics this weekend. Thanks for all the info. I'm still skeptical about it being a true 340 car. AC doesn't seem to be an option people would chose with a 340. More like a 318 car. He said however that it was all factory and never been messed with so if it came with a Carter carb like stated it should have a 340 under it.

Between the spelling and lack of punctuation what the f does this mean??

I understood it

They made 351 68 340s notch 4spd's.
Notchbacks sell for less than fastbacks.
But it seems there is increased interest in 69 340 'Cuda notchbacks. That's the special 69 only 'Cuda model.

Not to hi-jack this, but while were here, does anyone know the total numbers for 67 383-s barracuda's? Maybe a breakdown of vert, notch, and fastback. Thanks

Notchbacks are the best!......Any pics yet???

I'm the CARETAKER of Weinstats '69 440 'cuda registry and have 104 of the 360 cars to date. 84 fastbacks/20 coupes. Always looking for new(REAL M-code) '69 440 'cudas to add to the registry so drop me a note if any are found or known. This isn't a publicly released registry. Thanks, Dave

No Pics yet. I'm still waiting on them from the owner. He was out of town last week and was hoping to be back this weekend from NC. He may have been held up somehow by weather.

Where did you get the 7.9% from?

From my understanding, the number of 340 AC cars can't be determined, unless these cars are an exception to a rule.

Sorry I need to look at that again. I think I read that list wrong.
