Von I am going to go flat tappet since I put alot of street miles on my 63. I will let Dwayne spec one out for me as I want to keep it on pump gas. I am shooting for about 11.0 comp as with quench and the aluminum heads it should be fine. Good luck with your 512. Ron

My new eng I am building is well underway with the block still at the machine shop and all the shortblock pieces sitting in my living room. After talking with Dwayne (Da Man) I have decided to go with the Indy EZ heads since they have more potential then the Eddy RPM. Dwayne is giving me a great deal and even though I like to do my own head work I would rather let the "best" do these heads for me. Dwayne will also spec the cam as again the best will be doing it. It will be a pump gas 493 and I hope it puts my 63 solidly into the 10's. I still want to drive to the track and run 10's and then drive home. Besides I dont own a car trailer. Ron

Ron sounds like me and you are going to have similar engines. What stroker kit did you get? What intake did you decide on. Thanks.

Sounds like fun, Ron. Every 493 I've ever seen has been brutally fast. Can't wait to see this build unfold....

Don its a 440source kit and since I will use the EZ heads I plan on the Indy dual plane intake for now as it can be made to Max Wedge size.

Mike I dont want to run a roller because I put alot of street miles on it and that is hard on the roller lifters. I dont need to worry about a roller lifter breaking if I dont change them in a few thousand miles. The flat tappet cam will be hardened (nitride) and I will use EDM lifters so I hope not to wipe any lobes. And thanks for the kind replies. Ron

I think you would like a dominator with that set up...would still drive on the street OK, imho.

Mike it will be going in this black 65 Coronet. This is my great friend John's car. He wants to run about 11.50 but no faster as he will not put a bar in it so it should be great for mid 11's in his car. Ron

I have a basic 850 DP on the 440 in my car now that I may have to start with but I was thinking about a 950 hp carb. Not sure yet though. Ron

I'm sure a 950 would work really good. My set up was a 440 w/b1/bs heads and a 260ish cam, 10 to 1, and a pro systems 1050 dom. When going to the 4500 over a 4150 it seemed like a i picked up about 50 HP..it was that dramatic! I'm sold on dommies now..lol

cool! I loved everything about it, idled nice at 800 rpm, motor sounded better(deeper and smoother is only way I can describe it) at idle and the sound at WOT was simply awesome.

Good call in the EZ's I also chose a Comp flat cam for my street/strip car.I'm sure Dwayne is already swapping out the Indy springs and retainers for "good ones" Hey I don't know what distributor you are currently running but the Firecore mechanical fits the Indy's and works very well Do yourself a HUGE favor and get a valley pan with a removable center.I used the one that came with my heads and I wished I would have got the A/R or the Compu-flow plates instead
Have fun and pay attention to the details as you will not believe how great the extra cubes and airflow feel

Ron, your 850 will outflow the HP950. There's a thread elsewhere in the Race section on a 4150-style 1050main body, which I'm thinking about for my Duster. Last comparison test I saw, think it was by AndyF, IIRC the crossram made less power than a good single-plane single 4bbl; someone correct me if I'm wrong. Crossram definitely scores on appearance, though. I'd still like to know the cam & rocker specs.

Gus I am getting the valley plate with the removable plate as Dwayne suggested that to me.

Topside I got a deal on Hugh's 1.6 rockers and shafts so I will go with them and as for the cam Dwayne has not got to it yet but I will go with whatever flat tappet he specs out for the combo. And thanks for the kind replies. Ron
