A what if question ?

Let's say someone would commit to decent payouts and some bonus bucks , etc for a 2 day winter race here in North Texas

Like in March , would anything tempt you to travel to get here

Mopar only , maybe a 2 day event and car show etc.

We just don't have much of that around here , couple smaller deals and some nostalgia stuff

what if someone was to commit and rent a track for two days

How could you entice people to show ?

I would do the hard part but , if no one shows

well .. spinning my wheels

ps , most likely it would be 1/8 mile

Crandall might be a option but doubtfull

Every year I go down to NC area . From home as much as 12 hours drive. The costs are high fuel alone 400 plus . that's no rooms , food ,tolls.
Free entry would not entice me to travel that far to race if it were not a mini vacation for me when I go.

You get the car count, we could do a heads up

(Mopar only though)

I'll find sponsors,etc

what about say, three classes

15k

10k

5k

just depending on how many cars would show

guaranteed purse ,based on pre-entry's and sponsors

No chicken feed thing

or does money not matter ???

I would do an established major big named killer event like SHAKEDOWN AT E-TOWN or
ORLANDO'S WORLD STREET NATIONALS.
In all honesty there's no Mopar event with that much prestige or cash to warrant my spending close to 1,000 when it's all said and done. Food, fuel, feeding and housing a crew etc . it all adds up.

I'm just tossing it out there , I'm talking southern area when most of the country CAN'T race

locally I THINK we could get 100 cars at least to show .. maybe 150

But , we would need to draw like 300 or so to make an event that sponsors would support

Its just an idea at this point

There are many F M J people just waiting to trailer some old iron, so some would spend more then others...

300 racer or 300 racers and show cars?

There used to be a big club run show that got turned into the Lonestar Shootout. Could that be resurrected, or has it already?

Is there enough Mopar people in Texas to support it without spending the money to get people to travel from a great distance?

Don't get me started on the "Lone Star shootout"

what a poorly run event that was , it died quick and it should have .

This is a crazy area, Yes .. we have a large population and yes we have Mopars but, to get people here to support and event is very split

Dallas area cars and Fort Worth cars have two complete different outlooks on things

Dallas / Fort Worth compete

Gotta find a way to get your one day travel radius people first. That is your core. I bet 80% of the people that attend Mopar Nationals are from Ohio or a state that physically touches Ohio. That state is a lot smaller than Texas.

What, the racers in Dallas want it in their hometrack and the Ft Worth racers want it in thier track?

Smoke and mirrors, the Houston club had a good thing going ..

Previous to the people taking it over , it was a great event ( IMO)

BUT .. when they handed it off , it crashed, they blamed it on weather, etc, but ..is was management --

They flat lied to people ( like me )

when that happens , you lose trust in people ..

Yes , I agree totally on on the folks that attend the Nats

Its like going to McDonalds , you know what you are going to get ..

And a new event will struggle UNLESS people say , well .. heck lets TRY !!

Only people from here understand the struggle

Dallas against Fort Worth and the area clubs

http://www.tmccc.org/

They race against each other here

And they really don't like each other either

I moved here 11 years ago I thought

wow, big area .. lots of cool mopar people has to be

not ..

There is zero of that here

I tried to get a race going for this year in November. I got a lot of interest but I lost momentum and it all faded away. You can count on us to be there if the race isn't scheduled on top of a Divisional race. The I've tried to get those guys to come out to bracket races with no luck. Guys around here don't seem to want to race their cars unless it's a club race, so maybe a Dallas vs. Ft. Worth class? I race every weekend and I am usually one of only two-four Mopars at the track.

you would think ma mopar would be interested in sponsoring a big mopar only event down south the southern nationals has grown a bunch. problem with heads up is there is not very many mopar heads up cars. they have been doing a hand drop heads up thing here the last few years.

Beyond the expense of a long haul from north of K.C. Missouri, salt on the roads will keep a lot of folks home I would guess. Don't want my nice trailer rotted out.

BigDad,
I always find the TMCCC races alot of fun.

I wouldn't say the clubs don't like each other. Yes there are some club rivalies as it should be, but it's generally friendly and everyone has a good time and there are classes so every one has a chance to race. I think the series brings people out who, like me, to the track who normally don't have or can afford a serious race car but can compete and have fun along with fast race cars.

I think the problem is there aren't enough serious mopar racers around to build a sufficient core to draw others from other states. Cowtown and Dallas Mopars tried this a couple year ago but I don't think it was successful. Maybe it was bad timing or weather I don't know.

I think what you need is a long term commitment from the sponsers to grow the race over a few years to get the word out and start to draw races from farther out than Oklahoma and Lousiana.

But I think it would be a great idea if you can find enough funding.

We have a few guys that would make it from the San Antonio area.

If you wanted to move it down to San Antonio Raceway we have new track management that has been doing a really good job. I spoke to him at bracket finals and he is open to a mopar only race.

It has been tried several times here in north TX and failed miserably.
There are not enough Mopar racers around this area to support it. There are 3-4 bracket racers left in the area, a bunch of muscle car series racers, but they will never pay more than $25 entry fee.
The Lonestar Nationals in Houston was OK, but it still lacked any real attendance.
You will need some major sponsors, guaranteed payouts, maybe a big time show like some Pro Stock cars, Wheel standers etc. to get spectators in.
The track you hold it at will also be key. Racers around this area won't attend certain tracks for whatever reason.

Good luck getting this started. If I still have a car or can get one to drive I will be there.

As our financial conditions continue to improve (personally speaking) I'd love to find an excuse to load up the car and haul south for some kind of winter get-away race at least once in my life. Now, how much of a refuge from winter north Texas actually is I don't know. The crap shoot of the deal is getting across Wyoming and Colorado mid-winter. The winter storms they get make our worst look like summer squalls.

Does Mopar corporate actually sponsor the Southern Nationals. Or is it a local dealership?

I can't find a link to the 2010 Southern Nationals webpage.
