I asked about this class a few weeks ago, and got a little input, but not much. I see some other SB build threads, so I figured I would ask again.
I am still kicking around trying this class. I wouldn't be able to build something that could win right away, but if I was somewhat competitive, that would be OK. 600 hp is what it would take to win.
Build me some combo's. There is a weight to cubic inch factor, so that's important. 385 max cubes. I would want to stay away from any exotic parts(1 off cranks, etc) that would kill my budget.
So can it be done?
Weights: Base Weight Breaks* ENGINE BASE CI WEIGHT Small-Block 311 3050 Small-Block 350 3250 Small-Block 365 3400
Allowed cylinder heads:
Chrysler Small-Block • Stock factory OEM iron or OEM aluminum 318/340/360 Cylinder Heads • Edelbrock Performer RPM & RPM 340 • Edelbrock RPM Magnum PN# 61779 • MPP Magnum Aluminum Head PN# P515387
No porting allowed.
I would also be able to deduct 150lbs for a Mopar and for the bodystyle.
Your opinions please.
Dennis

To me, step one would be what race weight could you reasonably get your car to? Doesn't do any good to build a small ci motor if you can't take advantage of weight break.

How fast is the non-Mopar competition running in that class?
9.80's would be very competitive.
Mark, I agree and had been thinking along those lines too. I have a 68 Dart post car. I have no idea what I could get it down too.

FWIW, my 68 Valiant weighed 2,940 with an Eddy head 360/727 and narrowed 8 3/4 with ladder bars. All steel except hood, stock dash, but no radio or heater, race buckets with a back seat, 10 pt mild steel cage and 2x3 frame connectors.

A consistant 9.90 car is what you will need next year to be competitive can be done with a mopar but budget is going to be the issue

Question Not trying to stir the pot, do they allow the new style GM and Ford motors? If they do, then do they allow the 5.7 or 6.2 Hemi? If they do, I think I would look at that option. Since no porting is allowed The test I have seen show these flow pretty good in stock form. Just asking as I would like to see some of these engines built up to see what they will do in race form.

As far as specs go best thing to do to save money in the long run is call BES and order a motor the testing will kill you trying to do it yourself I tried it for nmca prostock mean street is not much different money wise some other things to consider how far do you live from nmca races how many can you make the car will most likly not fit any other class so if you race it anywhere else it will be a bracket car and with the temperment of these cars most people only test or race nmca and if you have to travel 500+ miles to most of the races it gets expensive the payouts are low and there is not much in the way of contigency money for most mopar racers you have to be willing to spend what it takes and be willing to get very little to no return for 7-8 races then get ready for rules changes to spend some more alot more if you do well

A strong 340 Duster NHRA stocker can go 10.50's at 3300 lbs. Take out 200 lbs., add a couple more points compression, add .075" more valve lift, and add a single plane intake. Sounds promising, but it will take a stocker type effort with the motor AND the car/driveline as well.

I am starting to see that. Maybe this class is not for me, I am going to be way behind on the learning curve. Maybe it's NSS for me.
thanks

The effort will be close to nhra comp the list will include Proflite trans $5000 9in ford rear with Dewco centersection $$$$$$$ ceramic bearings throughout titanuim bolts and other hardware engine rpm range upward of 9000 not sure on fuel but thinking vp c25 which is $100 for 5 gallons this is a partial highlite list remember new rear tires every 10-15 passes if your lucky super high dollar trick of the week oil these are the things most of your competition have and without these things you are giving up et I tried but bought/built a NSS car and am much happier
