does the R seem a little more to the right of the rivet centerline

I think your right, the logo looks centered, it's the vin stamping that's off.

Since he asked "how to apply" the sticker, anybody have any help to provide.

Maybe some helpful pointers on lining it up or techniques?

Bumping to help a guy out.

attached decal to the end of a paint stick with a small piece of tape. placed it carefully and looked at it through the window before i gave it the final press to make it stick to the vin tag. i was nervous but it did work and looks great. this was done to the tag installed in the car. once it was stuck, i removed the paint stick, rubbed it good and carefully pulled off the backing.

Thanks for the reply! I assumed it just stuck on with some pressure, but you know what happens when you assume.

the bare steel with black decal is an original unrestored but very rusty ohio car. if you look very close you can tell it never had black paint on it and the decal is originaly black.

Weird, never heard of that before.

My Road Runner had a black VIN with white/grey lettering. After sitting out in the elements for 20 years without a windshield the tag went to bare metal with black lettering.

Where can you get the decals again?

E.C.S. Automotive Concepts is where I was told the one I got was from. But then again when I E-mailed them for advice on the install, I got no response. so I could be wrong.

ECS has the "lunchbox novelty VIN decals". I wouldn't be surprised (given certain recent events) if they decided not to sell them anymore......

Call or PM ECS Dave and ask him.

Yep, I'm not trying to be a but I find it hard to believe that there were unpainted and painted VIN tags with different color VIN stickers used at the same plant, no less....
