Doc...for you to have "fiberglass" in your handle, you don't seem to up on current composites.
As for what parts weigh. The hood on our drag radial Buick, is a nice piece, from Glastek, weighs about 25lbs. The entire carbon front end, with the titanium tree, on the pro-mod car, weighs 12 lbs. .
Monte
Come on now Monte .... to be TECH correct ....CF is not fiberglass. And I am NOT up-at-all on CF. And honestly ...I don't care to know any-more than I do. WHY ? ...because how many regular people can afford it ?
Some here are talking about THREE THOUSAND DOLLAR hoods ? HOW times have changed !! I used to be beat-up by the price-shoppers comparing my stuff to that JUNK PLACE from CA. THAT DEAL alone was a major factor in me idling production at my shop.
A 25 lb hood ? ... Glastek did you no favors ... ... IMO - it should be HALF that weight. That whole CF FE ? ...why wouldn't they put that together with a MAG tree?

i agree aar is the best, but they wont make it custume!
Did you read his post??? AAR is by far NOT the best, and quite possibly the worst producer I have seen As far as Carbon Fiber is concerned another major issue with it is that it is not as forgiving (doesn't flex as much before it breaks) as 'Glass and is harder to repair.
bottom line: A-C F is nearly impossible to find B-it's not worth the extra cost per pound saved C-the extra weight saving over good race weight glass is minimal at best D- servicability questionable
Not in my plans
We have a CF front end/hood on our Outlaw car. The hood collapses at speeds over 190. By the time we got it braced to prevent this it weighed almost as much as a F/glass unit.

Kinda funny how this thread has gone completely full circle IMO.
Anyway to the OP, I suggest you re read the entire thread, your answer is buried in the details, which is, if the cheap CF version is Ok for you at an increase in price, anybody that makes FG doors can make CF doors, the question is are they willing to.
And to the AAR quality comments, I and I think many many others would go on record as stating AAr is the best, but not perfect, and customer service is spotty, but overall out the door quality very hard to beat. Sorry anybody has had a poor experience with them, but i will use them again.

THIS topic being in the race-section .....and talking about CF ...and then bringing-up AAR ..... ... YOU GUYS need to get-out more often.
GET OUT and look at the good race-stuff ....and the BESTest name-in-the-biz is mentioned here. If their race-stuff was compared to AAR ... it would be like comparing that-junk-place in CA to AAR's finished product.
