Dave, how do you know this is the same car? The daytona I looked at only had a half vinyl top?

There cant be many half or full white vinyl topped daytonas in TX that are orange.I assume in the same part of TX.Or could there??Del had 2 daytonas sold one might have been the half roof one

There are two Birds in Puerto Rico that I know of. I'm trying to get VIN's - Also, Maybe this is a dumb question but where is the "REAL" Sox & Martin Bird - Reed in Ne. / 308-236-5784 PS - pic of the car I'm restoring.

One of the two original S&M Bird's remains are supposed to be somewhere in Louisiana. Apparently, a dragstrip owner ended up with the car and raced it regularly at his own track until he wrecked it and pretty much took out the whole front end of the car. No one seems to know where it is though. The whereabouts of the second car are also totally unknown.

I've always heard rumours of two, but have only seen pics of one car. I've seen one pic in S&M's shop with two Birds but the other Bird cannot be clearly seen. Do you have info/pics of both cars ?? Jack Werst's 5 n 50 Bird is still owned by Tosten who used to race it, I believe.
FYI- there's at least 4 Birds w/in 20 miles of my small town in Nebraska. One has not been out of the shed since 1971(Vietnam story).
I'll try to get the VIN's on the Puerto Rico Birds if I can.
A guy by the name of Neeley used to race a Daytona in SuperStock - East coast guy. Ever run across it ??

Joe Fisher drove the 440 flat hood Bird for S&M and Herb McCnadless drove the Hemi with six pack hooded Bird for S&M. I had the same pics you mentioned of the Birds in the S&M shop and this one other pic that I have posted here. This pic may actually already be buried somewhere deep withing this unending thread!

Man, that's an awful lot of wings in such a small area. That just goes to show that they're still out there. That's sad about the one with the Vietnam story. I wonder what kind of condition it's in after all these years.

Sounds cool on the Puerto Rican Birds. Them are probably a sight to see down there! I never heard of the Neeley Daytona but would like to learn more about it.

Keep up the good work with those old drag cars. I've always been into old drag racing history. Heck, why else would I take a perfectly good, original Superbird and make it into a drag car!

Hey John, If any body got a direct line to the Sultan of Brunie, It would be interesting to see how many wing cars he has . i know he got 1300+ classis cars stored in his garage ...........poor man.

Well,He is a ruler of a tiny island nation over in the area of Indonesia. Apparantly the island was a stop over for migrating birds for thousands of years. Of course with birds, you have birdsh$t. Very big demand for the stuff because its full of phosphate and its used in fertilizers.
Bill Gates is only a pauper compared to this guy. he has about 10 wives that keep him "up" night time, i heard that he got caught with a few extras that he used to bring in from the US for some "play in the hay". he has a couple of 747s that he used to fly them back and forth with.
I could go on and on but you can find out some things about him on the net.
yes all the cars are stored in one garage! Thats not that big considering his living room can seat 6000 guests.

In Car & Driver a few years ago an article about the Sultan and his cars said that, in order to make room for new cars, many cars were taken out to sea and dumped in the ocean.

Bobby Hamilton sold both of his Birds. Too busy racing to enjoy them now from what I understand. I think he's still a wing car fan though.

The Jack Werst 5/50 superbird.RM23ROA181257 now resides in Aberdeen MD by Ken Jennings the Jennings and Tosten car .Hemi Fred here on the board was Jacks crew chief.There was article on this car in a 80-s magazine called cheater bird.where it was discoverd to have the engine moved back and stock headers wouldnt fit
