I hate rotaries! Been a Mazda tech for 15 years now and still get one a day pushed in with a flooded engine. Especially the new RX8's. Damn things have an 80month, 100,000 mile engine warranty now, LOL

I have a 2004 RX8 that I bought new. I have never flooded it. That is from people that don't know how to operate it, read the owners manual. Yes, they will flood occasionally if you start it and turn it off in a minute while it is still cold. I guess the 80 months on my 2004 will soon be over.

The rotary in the RX8 has a 8500 rpm shift point and 9000 rpm red line. And it has a warning tone when you near the red line. Pretty cool.

I fully agree it's a customer issue. Mazda seems to have gotten it handled though, we don't see nearly as many as we did a couple years ago. I can remember having 2-3 towed in a day (San Francisco, lots of stop and go driving). PCM calibrations and hotter plugs have made a world of a difference. PM your VIN, I can tell you exactly when your warranty is done.
