Yes, there is a bracket. It goes towards the backside of the passengers fender (mine has it). Might/should be a hole there for it. Sorry, I dont have a picture right off hand.

I have no reason to believe that mine has been replaced as the car only has 46,000 on it and is pretty much an untouched original car. My control does not work so it's blocked off. Vacuume moves the rod but will not close the valve. Will be working on that tonight Not to hijack but do you know where the 2 vacuume hoses go on the A/C cars that are located below the blower motor? I assume the large one goes to manifold vacuume and the other goes to the control valve. Greg

Greg- Do you have a clearer pix? I know there is a vacuum can. I think the small one goes to that. The can "stores" vacuum for use. The large one goes to manifold.

Only canister is under the battery tray and didn't have anything hooked up to it (bought the car without motor). I have no idea what it's for

Well I am gonna say that is NOT correct with a factory A/C on a 71 B-body...That is a set-up unlike any I have ever seen and looking at the bracket it was bent/made to fit...I will post a picture of the correct valve and bracket that came off my 71 1 owner original paint car...
Say what you want but that IS original paint in the engine compartment and the bracket appeared to be bent to get away from the BB manifolds (original 318 car) factory bolts and holes
