i have put a new TCI t/f streetfighter in my gtx. i have set the kickdown linkage about a 1/3 of the way back on the slot but it will not kick into passing gear when i go full throttle. is my linkage set too far forward or back? does the TCI streetfighter have a kickdown and you have to manually downshift to 2nd i don't know. any answers would be appreciated. a picture of the way the linkage is positioned on the carb would help.

thanks for the free ad moparts!!!!!

Trans lever should be almost all the way back at wide open throttle.

There should be 1/8 inch or less more travel in the linkage at Wide open throttle. There should also be a small spring from the carb throttle pin to the rear of the linkage pulling the linkage forward so that the rear of the slot is in contact with the throttle pin at all times throughout the travel of the throttle. (Item 13 in the diagram). This is what insures progressive throttle pressure and controls the transmission shift points.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

here what I do...see picture. Make sure the holes line up on bracket..see photo. I use a nail or a drill bit. Then adjust the rod forward to the carb. Adjust it so there is just slight contact on the arm. You must have a spring from the arm to the bracketto keep tention on it...otherwise it will not work. Next the pivot on the trans should be about in the middle, if not adjust the rod up or down, keep the nail, drill bit in place. Pull the nail and have somebody move the pedal slowly to WOT, watch the lever on the trans, it should move nice and smooth until it's almost all the way back. Good luck.

You want it so the kickdown lever is always touching the carb throttle stud, even at idle. At idle, the kickdown lever should be screwed in/out so the kickdown lever on the trans is pulled fully forward when at idle, and the slotted end to the kickdown lever must be touching the carb throttle stud. If you have too much kickdown adjusted, passing gear will kick in just fine, however you may get a delayed or non-existant 2-3 gear upshift.
