Im not bashing, Just going by what the machine shop told him. Any of you with Indy's ever look at the washers under your spings???

Yep, and mine looked just like those did.

I was getting metal in the oil and couldn't figure out where. And that's where it was coming from.

I have never run one and never had a problem.

Any chance something jammed in the cam or valve train causing the chain to break? Cam bearing got tight, etc.??

Iskys catalog doesn't show a button necessary till you get into the roller cams. Granted, this is a GUESS off of the pics - could the damage to the spring washers be from valve float, which will also let the cam walk forward, since at that time there is no lifter pressure to hold it in place? Just throwing it out there.

It has always been a lot of focus on the lifters keeping the cam back. I would say that is minor, and on an engine with worn lifters it is not there at all.
What about the force to drive the oilpunp? I always though that was the main reason for keeping the cam back. And if so, maybe the broken suction pipe let false air into the oilpump, so it did not make so much resistance to run, thus causing the cam to walk to the front? Just a possible cause....

Just thinking out loud here about if either the timingchain is the cause, or the oilpickup tube...

Could the broken/loose connection of the oilpickup tube have caused air to be sucked into the oilpump, which would be somewhat similar to suction cavitation I think. Could the intermittened shockwaves and vibration of this be transmitted through the intermediate shaft into to the camshaft, in turn causing the chain to break?

I have never run one and never had a problem.

I never had a problem with out one either ,but i did notice my timing being a little steadier with one. For no more than they cost i,ll keep running one just to eliminate any chance of cam walk.
