Tough to do in just one year...My brother and I went in 2006 with a 78 1/2 ton SWB Dodge. It had been pretty sorted out with a 400/727/8 3/4 combo. 2 weeks before Drag Week we bolted in a 915 headed, Dominator carbed, 493 and off we went...finished 3rd in the 12.00 class. I've been planning to take my Valiant ever since, and just haven't been able to make it.

That will be a head turner, License it. My wife and I love doing the local cruise nights and yours would be a one of a kind. None left around here they all rusted out.
When I was on drag week one of the guys gave me another Rampage a 84 and he's here in mich but he said the floor was going on it which is the same on mine... basically the whole floor inside the cab is junk on mine... thats why this is a perfect candidate for a tube chassis.... I'm gonna go this weekend to check out that other one for parts... I talked to him today and he is suppose to get back with me, I could use a better hood and maybe a drivers door

I dont think it'll be tough at all... I've built more than one car in less than a year... I did my P-body in 3 months but the engine and diff were done already(from my previous chassis)

Mike I don't know the rules for this racing. But why couldn't you use the P Body you already have? You would be way ahead in the set up. What would you have to change to it to run it?

That car is built just for drag racing... in drag week you have to drive the roads for more than 1000 miles and race at 4 tracks... so it has to be street legal and I sure dont want to wire up the lights, turn signals and all the rest ... plus I always wanted to build up the Rampage

This is my starting point for the '11 edition of drag week, just got it back from getting the floorplan all welded back up from the driveshaft explosion back last November...guess I move alot slower than you!!

Plan is to show up with nitrous, and the ability to choose between Mod Na or Pa, or Pro Street Na or Pa, and choose the weakest class, based on the first day. I have a license, but don't want to hassle with all the stuff required to go under 9.99, so I'll be limited to 10.00 as well.

I do everything myself... by next week I should have all the bad floor out and have all the tubing I'll need and start on the chassis with in 2 weeks... got 90% of the engine, I have a 9" that I need to cut down, got the struts and rear shocks and wheel(might have to get different rears)... the one thing I'm still working on is trans... if I want to go with a over drive

If I may recomend a trans....Check out SMR's 727 shorty over drive that uses a gear vendors set-up. I went with an A500 on mine, but I am sure it would not handle the kinda hp your going to throw at it. I like the 727OD because the JW bell will fit it, and a Lofgran blacket will fit it, as well as its a pretty standard piece. And the OD in that style isn't a parasitic loss like it is with an A500...So you get something that will handle a fair amount of hp and an OD to boot with minimal weight gain. With a full manual VB, it should rock.

If I'm not mistaken the only class you can run with a tube chassis is Unlimited
As long as you keep the forward frame rails it seems you can do pretty much anything else and run Modified

I think that is incorrect. Pretty sure a tube front with struts, will put you in unlimited. Some of the rules are touchy. They told Eddie not to come back with a lift off front end, or he would be placed in unlimited, even though his is obviously just a back half bracket car.
Even if they did put it in unlimited, so what, it's supposed to be about the weekly ordeal, not winning a class.
Monte
The guys that got DQ'd for changing out the whole engine when they killed it at O'rielly raceway and then purchased a new one at O'reilly parts store was just pure amazing dedication. Some serious wrenching goes on for that event for sure.

What class did the big block k-car run in? I would think that is your precedent.
Drag Week 2011 - 77th place - DD Drag Week 2012 - 2nd place SRBB N/A Drag Week 2014 - Kapooya RMRW 2018 RMRW 2020
