Maybe we should all learn from this & refrain from drinking the night before an event. It's a crying shame for AJ, Mopar & all us Mopar fans that his name is NOT Allen Johnson FORCE !!! It would take me 3 days to type all the rule infractions that John Force Racing has committed. He can throw races, lower the bodies of his cars below the limit or anything else he wants to do. He will go straight to Graham Light or any other NHRA official he can find & tell them he is John Force and he will do as he pleases! How many times have you been watching the John Force NHRA Race on Sunday & seen his NHRA infractions and then he gets on camera & tells the world he is John Force & those are his cars. I bet there is not one person on here that has not witnessed that! So much for NHRA fairness!!

In illinois .04 is dui for a person that holds a cdl...08 otherwise..if he was .027 that is nothing..but zero is zero and yes you can fail a breath test with scope..been proven..

Allen presented himself for a random drug test and failed. He admits he did and accepts his one race DQ. No rest of the story.
Hell, it's not like he was selling dope or anything.

If a US pilot can fly a plane with 300 passengers aboard above populated cities with up to a .04 blood alcohol level, I think one man can safely race one other man after blowing a .027. "Zero Tolerance" is just plain foolish. I wonder how many racers have been disqualified for eating a poppy seed bagel before a race, or a hot dog with a poppy seed bun. Either one can make you test positive for opiates

Did this happen when Bud pulled all their major-$$$$ out of NHRA ?

the rules are the rules...and it sounds like Johnson is being a man and owning up to it. zero tolerance for alcohol means zero tolerance, not 'well, we'll let a .03 go by, but anything higher is a no-go'
So how does a rule make anyone really safer when you are racing/driving within a 24 hr testing window?
That's a winner right there.
Another part of stupidity in this... if he waits until the deadline to test, he can drive the car in qualifying, in violation of the "zero tolerance" policy. Essentially he can be legally drunk, pilot the car, wait until later to test and pass. That in itself tells me the policy is nothing but a PR stunt for the nhra... we're tough on (insert issue).
Is it a good rule, yes. The application/execution of the rule makes it essentially worthless.
AJ was not real bright by going to get tested first thing. Maybe buy a breathalyzer to make sure you aren't going to be positive if you hoist a few.

I love AJ....but he gets no sympathy from me on this one.
He's a professional....he has people who relate to what he does off and on the track. This probably was a fluke....it probably is explainable. But, when you do it for a living, and your in the goldfish bowl, you've got to be extra careful. You may not like it, it may not be fair, but that is the way it is. It comes with the job.
I doubt they do anything more to him....but, he knows better.
You that are more Holy than others need to take a look in the mirror.
I can't believe some of the comments here. He wasn't driving the race car. Qualifying didn't start for a couple hours. If he would have been given the 15 min CDL rule he could have gone back to his trailer and brushed his teeth, ate something, and most likely passed, and still had a couple hours before qualifying.
So when are they going to test everyone. Sportsman included. I don't know a single sportsman driver who has done a blow test. My point being, why just the Pros? Man oh man, there would be a bunch of suspended sportsman drivers based on a ZERO breath test..
This whole thing stinks..
Chris..

I am not holy....not by a longshot.
But, I don't make my living driving race cars in a high exposed venue, either.
He knew the rules. Let him go scott free and you have a problem the next time you try to enforce it....I'm sure the next guy will have a good reason for violating the no tolerance, too. Do you let him go, too? Where do you draw the line? What do you tell the next guy that fails when he says "Allen Johnson failed, and you let him go? Why me?" What do you say, then? AJ's reason was good enough, but yours isn't? Who decides whose reason is "good enough?"
This is a no win situation for NHRA. The rule is well known....the HAVE to enforce it. If they don't, they lose all credibility. And, I am not an NHRA fan.
Sure, it may have been a fluke. It probably was, in which case it should go no further. But, the rules are there in black and white for all to see. As far as testing the sportsmen, that's probably a good idea.
