http://www.competitionplus.com/drag-racing/news/15580-allen-johnson-dqed-from-nhra-oreilly-natsPro Stock car driver Allen Johnson has been disqualified from the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals, it was announced today by NHRA officials. Johnson registered a .027 reading on the alcohol breath analyzer during this morning's drug and alcohol test. NHRA has a zero-tolerance policy with regard to alcohol. Any driver or official discovered to have a measurable blood alcohol content during racetrack activities shall be immediately barred from any further involvement or participation in the event. If you know NHRA has a "zero tolerance" policy, don't drink, but I don't think anyone should be in too big of a rush to pass judgment on him. The average man's BAC goes up .02% per drink (standard drink = one 12 oz beer @ 4.2% alcohol by volume, one shot of 80 proof liquor, or one glass of dinner wine). The same man also will burn off .02% per hour naturally. Given those assumptions, Allen could have either gone to bed with a really high BAC (somewhere around a .20% depending on the time between his last drink and the test) after a night of drinking with his buddies and all of the alcohol had not burned off yet, or he simply woke up this morning and had a stiff Bloody Mary (or similar drink) that took his BAC up to the level it was at. Neither one is unusual behavior for a race track or race weekend.

I wonder if it could be contested with a blood-alcohol test? Heck, if one drank the night before and didn't eat anything early in the morning, a "burp" might cause a high reading! (or mouthwash, as mentioned earlier)

Allen enjoys a drink here and there. I think he admitted having drinks with dinner. How late was dinner?
I have a zero tolerance where I work DOT and FRA. The FRA is a stricter 0 than DOT. Thought 0 was 0 huh.
I have watched fellow employees fail in the morning when they did not have breakfast. I had the same drinks but ate breakfast and blew 0. I have no pateince for drunks driving or working around me and the guys I worked with, I did not think were in that category.
.10 used to be Under the Influence in VA and you could get a DUI. That is now .080. CDL drivers is less but they say .00. If Allen blew a .027 I think this just stinks and wish he had had more to eat for breakfast. If it was .27 that is different, but it is not from what I am reading.
Sorry for the slip ALLEN

How high is .027? Would that equal one beer or one shot of liquor? What is the limit when you are stopped for possible DUI? Just trying to get an idea of how serious this is. I'm still an AJ fan!!

A 180lb. man can drink two bears, two shots, or two mixed drinks and blow .08 and get a DUI. Most people can reduce their BAC by .04 every hour based on one drink. The more you have the longer it takes. The more you have and the more variables get involved.
Allen could have been checked after half a mixed drink and read this high .027. Everyone speaks of 12 hours after drinking he thought he would be fine and volunteered to test early. The folks who test us recommend not having over two drinks the night before. More than that and the hourly rate of reducing your BAC changes. Those last few numbers are the slowest to leave your system. .027 is a really low number. I would say if they tested everone they would have gotten more people but it is a random test. Some people do not get rid of alcohol as quick as others. If you drink more often I'm told that slows down you ability to get rid of BAC(Blood Alcohol Content). One less drink the night before and we would not be talking about this.
Allen is a standup guy and is not making excuses. He simply thought he was OK and went and took the test to get it over with. He had all day to do it.
