CRT built the trans in the kids 62.It was pricey as he ordered it bullet proof.John had a free freshen up.Never needed it.Been in at least 5 years and plenty of street and strip miles.Ive never used A&A so I cant say anything about them.Rocky

I agree both can put together a good transmission for your application. As far as the price, make a list of the aftermarket (new) parts each is using in their build. This should identify the difference in part costs and let you pick what you want. Use their price lists, but for example:
$225 Valve body $100 Deep pan with filter extension (check prices) $ 35 Front clutches (Alto Red Eagle) $ 15 Rear clutches (stock replacement for comparison) $ 20 Steel clutch plates (Kolene steels are double that) $ xx billet rear servo $ xx billet front servo $ 25 HD servo return spring $550 New Steel or Aluminum front drum (not cast factory) $100 Roller rear support $ 25 New pump gears (HD steel ~$150) $yyy gaskets, seals, rings (overhaul kit) etc.

Smokin Woody is right on the money as a mater of fact CRT sells the A&A Valve bodies if I am not mistaken. John is a Diamond in the ruff If you look in the yellow pages hes the one they made up the Good guys hear capes!! GO CRT!!! for sure
theres a lot of guys that rebuild MOPAR transmissions whether its racing or for street use...John Cope (CRT), built my race trans..
he stands behind what he builds and the products he sells...A$A are suppliers or should I say manufacturers (correct me if Im wrong) and build transmissions as well...CRT uses a lot of those parts plus he has a few that are manufactured for him...
for me, as I have done business with CRT, thats whom I would go to and save yourself that $300..
tell you a little story: when I first met John, he showed me what was wrong with my 727 in about 5 minutes...he tore down my trans that quick and explained what each part does and what parts he will use to build me a better trans...
He's a good honest man and knows his transmissions...
Thank you Kiddart

If you need a true high performance 727 with all the good parts, like bolt-in sprag, bilit drum, steel spline front gear, max-lug pump, etc.., then buy an assembled trans from CRT. I bought all the parts seperate and built my own trans, but it cost about the same as if I just bought an assembled trans. They make profit on all the individual parts, plus you pay shipping for all those parts too. With the assembled trans, it is almost like getting the labor for free.
CRT sells the A&A parts for the same price as A&A charges. The 727 I just built has the aftermarket steel front drum. All the aftermarket drums use the '71 and up bushing and pump support. The pump has the modified support and the max-lug pump gears. Because the new front drum is a 5-clutch setup the rear clutch retainer needs the front edge beveled for clearance. Since this is a performance built, I got the aluminum rear clutch retainer, and also a lightened sun shell. At the time I was using a stock valve body with shift kit, so no rollerized rear support, just the stock one, but I did install the A&A super sprag. all the servos are aftermarket, 4.2:1 front band lever with the thick band strut and bilit band ancor. The HP borg warner bands ( I think they are kevlar?), Alto red eagle clutches and kolene steels, deep trans pan and filter extention, and some minor mods like rear vent kit, tapped direct passage for screw in restrictor plug, 10 springs in front clutch, drilled and tapped hole for throttle pressure adjustments, drilled small oil hole from cooler return for rear sprag lube, heli-coiled many holes, new stainless cooler lines, aux cooler, etc. Also, CSI trans sheild and matching locking dipstick/tube assembly. Finally a custom 9" Ultimate converter.
I later went to a CRT manual reverse valve body, removed the direct restrictor, and put all 15-springs in the front clutch drum.
As you can tell this is a pretty pricy 727 build, but still way easier/cheaper than a 48RE installed behind a modified Cummins turbo diesel.

Had dealings with Rick at A&A yesterday afternoon at Norwalk. Diagnosed issue in first sentence and saved a bunch of time. Had parts in trialer. They took car back to shop, pulled trans, replaced part and back to Norwalk by midnite. He answered phone around 10 pm. discussing some issues. Extremely helpful, professional and highly recommend. Nothing against CRT, just havent dealt with them personally. Back to track.

im getting a street performance tranny not a race one .im sure the one from crt will be fine.crt valve body trans go 2 kit, bolt in sprag, stock clutches, red bands, and a deep pan. for a 400 h.p. duster this should be fine for the street

Read the post, I was not recommending those parts. Those are examples of aftermarket new parts which add cost to the trans. If your builder is including a $300 part and the other isn't, you should expect to pay $300 more...
If you are getting zero aftermarket new parts from either vendor, then the price difference is not due to parts and you can base the decision on the prices quoted by the builders.

I went with John at CRT for my Coupe's tranny, it's a mild street car and I tossed a few parts in I probably didn't obviously NEED, but I wanted overkill over shoulda/woulda/coulda anyways.... To be honest, both guys sound great, but when I bought MY 727 I looked through the threads at the feedback, and John Cope is second to none.

I think the OP needs to get his current trans checked for shift overlap. A lot of trannies bark the tires not from brute force but because the wheels stopped turning . Makes it seem really harsh at part throttle. As for the CRT vs A&A I have no personal experience with either one but the fact that you can't find any negative posts on here for them speaks volumes to me. Kevin

please tell me more as when this trans was built we used all the best bands and clutches ect..from day one it shifted awsome at full throttle but at light shifting it really clashes the gears.im no tranny expert by any means,if there is something i can do to stop the gear bang at part throttle i would be happy to try instead of spending $ on a assemmbled tranny.ive had it up on jack stands and whent through the gears and noticed no wheel stop or pause through the shifting.any experienced tranny help i am willing to try
