Does anyone know the height of the air cleaner lid on a 67 coronet r/t. Is it shorter than a dual snorkel on a c body? I have one for a c body and it hits the hood barley. I found a correct but wanted to know if there's a difference before i buy it.

3 1/2 inches, pie-pan adds another 1/4 in.

My original 67 lid measures about 3 3/8" tall at its perimeter. I have another that looks similar, but measures about 4". I don't know what it is off of, but it has the tapered snorkles, and uses the B body pie tin, so I don't think it is from a C body. FWIW

The snorkels are sometimes longer on C body breathers, but the main body itself should be the same as a B body piece. Depending on the year or style C bodies have pie tins as well, that isn't just a B body thing.

Yes, they have pie tins, but I don't think they will fit a B body air cleaner as they are a different shape

Some of the 66 and 67 air cleaners have a small dimpled area in the middle that won't accept a pie tin...this type never had any from the factory but I've seen people use the decal version of the tins on these and make them fit. But there's no physical difference between a B and C pie tin.

Okay. But do all of the 67 to 69 C bodys air cleaners have the small dimple and if not do they all have longer snorkles? What would have a 4" tall lid?

The '67 R/T and GTX dual snorkel air cleaner is very distinctive. It should look just like this. If you're having a problem with it hitting the hood, are you running the stock intake and carb? Standard motor mounts?

By the way, all these big air cleaners use the same air filter element so the height around the outside should be the same.

Hmmmmm indeed!

Do you have the bases for both of those? What about filters? My old Fram book doesn't show any options. I'll have to get my early '68 unsilenced one from my Barracuda out and measure it again.

Well dang, I guess you're right. I never thought there was a height difference. Interesting because they all take the same air filter as far as I know.

Maybe there's a difference in base plates that account for using the same filter in all of them. I just don't have a lot of first hand experience the '67 air cleaners.

Mine measures about 3 3/8 tall. Im running a Holley intake, its a single plane 4.13" front and 5.25" rear with a Holley carb. I guess the intake is to tall or something because it its on the back side.

The 67 and 68 aircleaners have different 4 barrel bases.
67 used the AFB carb and in 68 went to the AVS which has a larger throat opening.
I believe there may be a difference in the rise in the two bases also.
Both used the same filter pictured, 2402677.
It measures 12.5 inches across by 3.5 high.
If I remember correctly, I think the 67 dual snorkel top has 13 notches around the top sides and the 68 has 11 notches.
Perhaps 67 and 68 440 B-body owners can confirm or deny that...

Here is a '68 air cleaner. All three years look different.

And this is a '69 but I don't have a picture of the base plate.

As far as I know, the only '68s that use pie tins are the unsilenced ones and maybe the C-body one with long snorkels that looks like a '69 air cleaner.

This is a '68 air cleaner that the center was changed out so it could use a pie tin. I know the person who created this for their own car.

Ding Ding Ding. You guys are way smarter than me on this stuff. I think I'll just stay quiet now.

Interestingly, the carb mount is in about the same place (height)for both, meaning that the taller lid will actually sit taller above the carb than the 67 base/lid combo.

No, please don't stay quiet!

This is all very interesting. I'm always learning more about air cleaners. Now we just need to figure out what the taller '67 air cleaner is for.

Is your Charger an original 440 car and had the shorter dual snorkel?

I measured my '68 unsilenced air cleaner and it is the shorter height. These are actually the same as '67 unsilenced ones and were phased out in early '68. They then switched to the smaller diameter one that was being used on the 340s.

The one below is not mine but the same. Of course the base plates would be different between '67 and '68. Mine has the same base as the 340 air cleaner.

Can you post pictures of the lid and base that you're having the problem with? The Holley would have to use the bigger diameter throat opening.

Yes the Charger is an original. The shorter air cleaner is the original. I don't know the year, make or model of the taller unit.

My 68 383 GTS has the smaller diameter unsilenced air cleaner - it has and April 68 build date.
