Dan just how many wing cars do you have currently? i have none, and am looking for one. Oh wait, thats right i don't have the money for one yet, but hold on to one or me and i'll get back to ya in about 5 years

On the hunt for my dad's old cars. They include 5 Daytona's, 2 superbirds, and 2 500's. Very interested in finding the Red on Red Daytona, and Q5 Charger 500, and have found both cars.

Well i woudln't ask anyone but my dad to have given my a Daytona. I'd offer to work as a slave for one though. although i'm not sure how my wife would take to that idea, then again she might like getting me out of the house for a while. I wil lhave one some day though. Not a doubt in my mind.

Dan - Great pictures, they really bring back memories of the 70s and early 80s when I was on a "mission" to buy as many neat MoPars as possible. I bought as many as I could afford, and found other buyers for a lot of the rest. One car I missed out on was a Daytona in San Antonio, the bank loan officer took almost 2 weeks to approve my loan... that was 2 days after I let a friend go get the car for $4000.

Allen

Here is what $4000 would buy you in 1983:

John, don't know what you knew of me then, I just told you I was Mopar4ya from Moparts . John, generous...sure I like to help someone when I can. But give away one of my wing cars....LOL!. Although my 5 year old son has already claimed one of my Tor Red birds, and I plan on making his dream come true.

Dan, believe it or not, I do remember talking to ya at Norwalk and telling me that you were Mopar4Ya. That, in itself, is amazing as I can't even keep track of all the wing car stuff that has gone on on here in the last week!!!

Allen, cool pic. Hard to believe what a guy had to pass on for one reason or another back then. Who would have ever thought these cars would be worth what they are today. I am alot like you,I bought everything I could afford and even some I could't to have the collection I have today. But like you, pressed with the dessision to sell off some to afford the restoration on the others or hang on to all and keep dreaming of restoring them all... One thing is for sure, once you sell them they are gone.........

Dan.

Even back then, it was a buy at $4K... it came with a spare engine (re-built), a bunch of NOS parts, and had a very solid body... At the time I thought it would sell for about $6000 if advertised in Hemmings.

Dan - Reality is slowly settling in for me. I am 48 years old, and the cars are just not getting done. Basically I am running out of time, already it is a lot harder for me to work on the cars than it used to be...

I am considering all sorts of possibilities, and have even thought about offering the Daytona, Superbird, and Charger 500 as trade material for a near mint Daytona that basically needs nothing. Don't know if I would find a taker, and don't even know if I could go through with it... I know I won't sell the cars with hopes of buying a replacement!

Some of my cars are not for sale, and could only be bought by a fool willing to part with a hell of a lot of money. These include the 68 Hemi Charger R/T, 69 Hemi Road Runner, 70 440-6 'Cuda, and the winged cars...

I am starting to prepare my 1971 Challenger R/T 383 w/Shaker car for an eBay auction sometime next spring. If it meets reserve and sells, I will start considering the next one to go

And yes, you are certainly right about selling the cars... one of the cars I regret selling is the 1970 B5 Blue Challenger R/T that has been on eBay several times... AND the B5 Blue 1970 Hemi Super Bee that I still have the number matching engine to.

Dan, I think the reason I remember meeting you at Norwalk is that I think we may have discussed all the '70 Daytona stuff that was going on here on the board at the time. Man, the '70 Daytona stuff sure has been going on for a long time now ain't it?

Allen, you really drive the point home on old man father time being against us. It seems like the older ya get, the more ya think about stuff like that. That's one of my reasons for having as much fun with the cars now as I can as ya just never know when it will be too late. Wow, B5 blue '70 Hemi Superbee huh? Did you happen to do a nice burnout with the car at the 1982 Chrysler Car Club Convention at the Chelsea Proving Grounds? If so, I got that on video and it has always been one of my favorite Mopar burnout/acceleration shots.

John - That wasn't me in 1982 at the proving grounds, I went to the meet in St Louis in 1982 and drove a B5 Blue 1969 Hemi GTX.

I bought the '70 Hemi Super Bee and it's original engine in two separate deals from different people in about 1981, and sold it and a '70 Hemi Road Runner to Murray Crowe in the late 1980s. Although we had a verbal agreement to give me first refusal if he ever sold the cars, he sold one of them within two weeks... The Hemi RR went to Ron Slobe's R&R Salvage and was resold to Sandy R. who has been doing a fantastic job of restoring the car. I recently was put in contact with him and provided him some history and pictures of the car. He maintains a large website that tracks the progess of the car, have a look here: Sandy's Garage

He has not yet updated the site with the information I sent him. I am trying to find the contact information for the guy that I purchased it from to help Sandy in his car history research...

I do not know who owns the '70 Hemi Super Bee, although I heard it may have gone to R&R as well. I have a lot of pictures and some information on the car that I would gladly provide the current owner. It is one of 36 Hemi powered Bees made in 1970, so finding it shouldn't be that difficult... I hope!

Here are pictures of the two cars:

Well, I have to go finish Christmas shopping...

Allan, that is very interesting as Murray also owned my 70 Hemi Roadrunner. He sold it to a friend of mine in the early 90's and I bought it in the late 90's.

Allen, interesting story and cool pictures. The B5 blue Hemi Bee that we shot at Chelsea in 1982 must have been a completely different car then. I used the car on the cover of our box artwork for the "'68-'70 Dodge B-Bodies Volume 1" video and Greg Rager saw it at a show and bought a copy for a friend that he said owned the car now so I thought it may have been you. Man, I love '70 Coronets!

Well, I have finished my Christmas shopping... having spent hundreds of $$$ and lost all of my Christmas Spirit due to traffic

Dan - Murray got around, I guess he was mainly in it for the $$$. I have seen Murray at a couple of MoPar Nats since I sold the cars to him, but don't care to have any more dealings with him... Is your 70 Hemi RR the green one that you have posted pictures of?

John - I like the '70 Coronets also, although not as much as the 68-70 Chargers and Road Runners...
