....and here's one of an NOS, climate controlled stored, never seen daylight scoop... before the elements of sunlight exposure, and acid rain, hand washing, etc, etc...

Terry, Hurry up and cover that back up I see some change going on

If he used a flash it's already ruined

FWIW the one I painted using Mike Voths (Alltrim Specialties) "NOS" formula looked identical to the one Terry posted pics of, it's allot darker than most would imagine, it does look a bit lighter in the sunlight but not a bunch lighter. I'll post pics later

Gere is the one I restored using Alltrims supplied paint, this was taken under florescent lighting in a paint booth. Without the lighting in normal indoor ambient light it looks VERY similar to the example Terry posted above in terms of color darkness.

Same bubble outside in natural sunlight with a slight overcast.

Some dont know the Dark Text Argent was used in the later 70-s as well as the light on the 15x7 and 15x8 steel rims.

Same paint codes, same chrysler numbers and listed through out the 70-s under misc paints.

These rims have the dark text argent on them.

Shaker looks awsome Scott.

NOS light and dark 79 15x7 rims. I see very few of the dark argent rims around. So they did use it on rims, just not in the early 70-s.

Mark, I would have to say your 2 examples are as good as it gets showing light/dark argent. It's pretty tough to take a picture of textured argent and it look exactly like it does in person.

This picture is of the light/dark argents used back in the day. These are engineering paint swatches used by the plants to inspect parts to when they were received.

Here you go, light & dark argent next to the bubble on a 3,900 mile survivor. This discussion comes up every 6 months or so and always goes back to the conclusion that, as an engineering standard, bubbles and grilles were painted the same argent.

Thats some good contrast between the two colors, esp on your shaker pic, yes it is hard to photo, I can take 20 pics and at times ask myself is that the same part.

Scott gave me some tips on getting good photos a good while back, I have not forgot them, but im usually too busy to setup the proper background and light.

Yes it does come up often but it seems more is learned about it as time goes on and thats good.

I think it helps everyone understand it better vs keeping it under lock and key.

The myth that these paints are all dried up is just that, I know of several sitting on some.

Ive a few quarts of the non green tint dupont lucite argent silver used on the older vette rims, my god, its harsh, I cant find a mask it wont get through, the ditzler is much more mild.

But thats a whole different topic.

Good to see these great pics and info come out, 5 years ago it would still be hush hush.

Hey, on that NOS out of the box shaker, whats the box look like?? I often wonder what even 30 years does to a part/paint vs spraying org paint from the can. In this case it does look like it was well taken care of, which is a task within itself.

That NOS shaker is priceless in my eyes
