How well do rear leaf spring sliders work in a drag application? I see them on some guys cars but many still run the oem stlye shackles.

Seems to me that the sliders would allow for better rear tire planting when the sliders reached their max forward position.

Got any real world experience? I am getting ready to install my springs, and I am thinking about going with sliders. Seems like an easier install than the shakles in the relocation kit.

I've got a 65 Coronet, 383, 4 speed, 4.10 Dana, minitubbed, springs on frame. My estimate is its a 13 sec car when completed.

I used to care but....... things have changed

I like mine. Less separation in rear and more stability at the other end. I've done 1.62 60' w/ them.

Yeah, it's got a smallblock.

When I put them on and got rid of the shackles the car didn't pick up any in the 60' but is more consistent now. It was all over the place with the shackles as far as 60' time. This is running low 1.30 60's

One day I will have something cool here.

Good info guys. Thanks for the replies.

HOw did you weld them to the frame? They seem wider than the mopar rear frame rails.

When I've put them on I just welded them on top of
the slider bracket to the rail... no big deal(make
sure the rails are clean metal) and square to the spring

Let the diff hang and set them so they just clear the
front(dont want any upsets on the chassis)

On my car, at ride height with weight in the car, the spring is much closer to the rear of the slider. I dont know how much seperation Im going to have on the launch, but I wanted to be safe...

IIRC AFCO suggests the leaf spring eye be 3/4 of the way toward the back of the slider box.

Hey guys,

I know this is a thread brought back from the dead, but I needed some clarification on this...Mr. P., you are letting the diff hang with the slider installed on the rear spring eye and placed up to the frame? And then setting them just a hair back from the front of the slider and welding them there?

Just tack them in place then let the rear end hang
to see where the bolt is on the slider... you dont
want them hitting either end... once they are located
right them burn them on
EDIT
the first time I tacked them a bit forward so I
could measure how far I had to move them rearward...
if yo tack them on to far rearward the bolt will hit
the front and you cant get a measurement on how far
to move them

Thanks for the info Mr. P. Was just trying to get an idea of roughly where to tack them in the first place with nothing to go by

If you let the diff hang use a square off the frame
rail to the center of the spring eyelet and that will
give you a starting point

I just installed the Speedway brand on a 71 demon and looked at this info when making my decision.

http://www.afcoracing.com/tech_pages/leaf.shtml

I installed mine 3/4 from the rear at race weight. With fuel and so on.I beleive I got that info through moparts.

Hope this helps

i would weld a plate to the car and drill and tap it and make sims that u can put between the plate and the slider that way you can use them to sift weight around on the scales.i bet a 1/4 " sim on one side or the other can sift a hole bunch of weight may be some one can explane it better im not that smart

First off, Happy Birthday Mike! All the best to you man!

I got the sliders installed...let the diff hang, got an idea where they needed to be and went from there making sure I had enough extension and compression with them where it wasn't bottoming out. The 3/4" that everyone mentions, is that the gap that you are measuring, or from the back of the slider gap to the center of the spring bolt?

Also, I only ended up welding the sliders on the front and back as the sides are quite a bit wider than the frame...do you guys think this is strong enough???

Thanks... I put a piece of metal between it and the
frame... but that part isnt carrying that much load
so it should be fine
