I've never tested a alt to see how high it can put
out but I know it will put out better than 15v but
the problem is the regulator... need one for the
higher voltage

This new racing alternator is called the XS VOLT The XS VOLT alternator still operates as a one-wire, meaning that the only connection necessary is the charge wire (or battery output). First of all, the voltage adjustment allows the racer to change the set point of the voltage system while the unit is running. The set point is the level that the unit sees as the goal, the perfect level of the electrical system. On the XS VOLT, turning a small potentiometer on the back of the alternator can move this set point. The range is 13.5V - 18.5V, allowing one alternator to be used with 12V and 16V batteries -and anything in between. Charging sensitive gel batteries at low voltages or using the hybrid 14V batteries are not a problem for the XS VOLT. This means that one XS VOLT alternator will work with your car no matter what battery you choose.

For guys that don't run an alt and need weight aft 2- 8 volt golf cart batts in series works good and the batts are cheep like 85 bucks each, they hold a charge to 16v all day racing and if ya drop them to the 14.5 volt range you still have enough power to race, the weights range is from like 50 to 75lbs each depends on who's batts ya get

why not ? None if it's fully charged makes no difference if from an alternator or battry charger. its charged. if it's needs attention crarging between rounds you can tell with a volt meter

Was that reply to me?

I wanted to know if the people running 16v were running 1 battery or 2? Then to verify that if they were just running 1 16 volt battery that charging between rounds was sufficient.

Raisin, I ran only one battery no alternator on 2 different cars and will do so again with my Dart. First my dragster that sees very little electrical draw due to belt drive fuel pump and alky carb. Tops off in 10mins or less after driving up to lanes a few restarts and a full pull and drive back. My Top Sportsman car add nitrous fuel pump and nitrous selanoid draw, longer cool down due to race gas and got towed to and from the lanes would take 15-25 mins to full charge. Hope this helps.

Pros an cons? Im looking at powermaster battery an charger. I want something that spins motor over faster than the (2) diehards i have now.

I always wondered how it work on a street cars lights blinkers etc. Can 12 v bulbs handle the 16 v juice and how much is an alternator? Sorry to hi-jack...........

Anymore data to be released on this topic? I'm thinking of going this direction. Curious about 12v bulbs....?
