Some times you have to break ...... to learn how to keep it together ......

Would gas porting the pistons have helped? Seems to me the sides would not get as hot if you had a more positive ring seal as in no blow torch blowing between the piston and wall

No, would actually make it worse.

Gas porting is just trying to pressurize backside of ring for better ring seal.

This deal, these motors run rich, so you don't burn hole through piston/sink valves etc with excessive temps... but you have alot of excess fuel in chamber/piston top & when it detonates... the rich condition accelerates the breaking of piston (it's the fuel that feeds the fire so to speak) Same deal as when a N20 motor detonates when rich & knocks ring lands out. This did'nt even come close to melting head/gasket/valves/plugs etc. This was purely a detonation deal... Just need lower timing & or better fuel to keep it form detonating. Also inlet temps are high on a blow through deal with no intercooler, that's really what the methanol injection is for, it's a type of chemical intercooler.... plus if I inject it into the hat it helps with octane... what we inject into the turbo is gone before it ever gets into carb.

interesting read.

sounds like you had quite a dyno thrash, and learned some stuff along the way.

ive never dynoed a turbo motor, but have dynoed a few blow through supercharger motors.....and had the opportunity to try some custom blow through carbs as well.

my experience with them was this......
they didnt work at all when used as a N/A carb.
same problems as you described.......super rich everywhere.

installed the carb hat.....and they worked fine.

give it a try if you put the motor back on the dyno.

1000hp.......that should get your attention when you mash on the loud pedal.

I ran my old C&S 900 blow through & the 850 QuickFuel Blow through & the 950HP BT N/A. yes they just run really rich (like 9.5:1? off top of my head), but will make a "clean" dyno pull.... this Pro Systems is not a rich problem... it's hard to describe exactly what it does, but whatever happens only happens within last 1/8 throttle opening... We can load it to 7/8 throttle & it is rich, but running fine & "clean" & then all sudden you go that last 1/8 throttle wide open & all hell breaks loose. I don't really care, it's on it's way back to PS & I will run my homemade 950.

The new Diamonds arrived today, Wirstpin yesterday, rings last Friday. Block is machined, crank will get balanced tomorrow, but I won't have time to work on it until Thursday night. But should go back together pretty quickly...
