We went to Howland strip a few times.Meander is pretty much the same way.I remember at Meander you had to quit racing so planes could land.Rocky

Yep, I thought that looked familure. There's a Katies Corners Ice Cream Stand basicly setting on what would have beem the starting line.
If I remember the story right, the guy who owned the farm it sat on was a WW I Pilot and he built a runway to land his planes on after the war. I remember seeing something about him in the Howland Hardware store on the corner of 46 and old 82. (I grew up in Vienna 7-8 miles from there)
That track looks scary narrow.
Anyone have any pictures of the track back in the day? Dad said he seen Garlits run there in the early 60's.

Here's a shot of the old Vaca Valley Raceway near Vacaville, CA. In the pic the drag strip is the right side of the oval. Still visible from I-80 near the Midway-Lewis Road turnoff. Spent many a Saturday evening there.
