Fact is it takes a good effort to run 9.40's with 440-1 heads at 3000+ lbs... Im sorry but 9.70's isnt no where close to 9.40's.
![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif) A high 9 second car is a good achievement, but to get it in the 9.20-9.40 range is a lot harder than you might think. IMO, at 3300 lbs many of the parts used to run 9.80-10.50 need to be changed. And many people can't stomach spending the money to make wholesale changes like that. Custom headers for example to use a 500+ CID engine in an A-body to max advantage.

500 rb cid,13:1 ,Indy - 1 fully ported heads, the car is 3300lbs with diver. ladder bar coil over,13/31 slicks' 4.88 gear. 5500 CONVERTER. ...in an A body. ... heads flow about 370 ...706/693 274/277 @50 cut on 108 in @103.the best I got out was 10.40 move it to 106 and it went 10.05
When trying to make improvements, I like to work from the existing combo and timeslip to target improvments. What are all the other parts of your combo and a timeslip? Header size x length Intake Carb Timeslip data
If that is the cam you are running, I think it is too mild for 500 CID, 13 CR. Look at what Greg suggested for comparison.
