Those look like standard offset rockers. So pushrod angle should not be an issue.

Lots of guys have been running Indy 440-1 offset rockers which make the intake pushrod angle more severe. But even on low decks, which make it worse with the shorter pushrod, it typically is not an issue.

But with large offset rockers, reducing pushrod angle with large valve spring pressures (700 open) can be helpful; i.e. offset roller lifters.

This is my 440-1 setup on my low deck (400) block. But I am not running much spring pressure (solid, flat tappet cam).

wow those are angled pretty good jim. sorry for the confusion the angle i am talking about is the push rod cup to rocker adjuster angle? my question was at max lift is the push rod cup/rocker arm adjuster supposed to be in a straight line? or does it matter? i tried to take a pic of it in the first post but i could never get a very good pic to come out. jim the angle i am asking about is number (4)

thanks bobby

I thought the offset lifter for the pushrod cup was for the exhaust rocker... thats how my 440-1 setup is anyway!

Should the pushrods be slightly longer to reduce the amount of adjuster under the rocker??

Sledge, I don't see how that would work? I added the blue arrow to my pic to show which direction the rocker offset moves the top of the pushrod (to the right). That puts the pushrod at an angle, and a lifter with the pushrod seat offset toward the exhaust (to the right) would help the intake pushrod angle closer to stock.

I see the original poster (Mopar65) is talking about rocker adjuster to pushrod angle, but this is for Sledgehammer.

I think he is refering to the left right angle when looking at the front of the engine. If that is what he is talking about than ideally you wuold want the adjuster and pushrod in a perfect straight line at 1/2 lift.

For what it's worth a W2 small block has a real bad push rod angle no matter what angle you look at it and people have been running them 7000+ RPM for several decades

Looks to me like the push rods are too short. This would improve the angle slightly also - and the oiling in the ball/cup area. 1 thread showing is what to shoot for.

I'm looking at the second pic you posted Bob. Just looks like the pivot area is too far away from the bottom of the rocker arm. The closer you can maintain this clearance (without the pushrod hitting the rocker - valve fully open) the better off you will be.

It looks ok to me but I`d have to agree it looks like more than 1.5 threads showing. Also, don`t you run a roller cam and if so ,those cranes could be a weak link......

I was told by the guy that i got my heads from said the cranes would be fine for my engine. he is the one that specked the roller cam for me.For a roller it is soposed to be a mild grind.I thought i did but for right now i do not have the money for the hs.but if i ever get the money saved up i will but them.thanks for all the help.Mopar65
